    DROPPED S45-2's!

I bought what was a very nice set of S45-2's off ebay recently, unfortunately the courier dropped them and has dislodged the magnets on the drivers. Is this damage repairable or are the speakers worthless now? Also, how can you tell if the drivers are original? There are no brand markings on them, only numbers and the magnets struck me as being rather small.  Thanks    Jeff

I fear that may be the end for your woofers.

One of my pairs of S45-2's has a non-orginal woofer on it, if you can post a picture of yours we could tell you if yours are original. If you bought a suitably-sized woofers you will have working speakers, they just won't sound as good as the originals.

Hmm, as I suspected, such a shame. I will be better off looking out for another pair then.  Anybody need any spare parts? (other than woofers!)

Maplin do 8" Woofers for 9.99 or 12.99 each that are visually pretty similar, could be worth a try if the skip is the only alternative!

Don't throw them away, I have just replaced some in a pair of S45's myself. Used these as replacements. They sound great to my ears at least.

    Re: DROPPED S45-2's!

I've been messing around with one of the damaged drivers! I managed to split apart the whole magnet assembly without damaging any thing, apparently! I then figured out a way of reassembling using superglue and a vice (and lots of patience!) and hey presto, one working bass driver! The difficult bit was centralising the core to give free movement without any scratching or interference occuring.  The speaker has now been brought back to life but unfortunately I dont think the midrange is working! The cone moves freely when gently pushed but there is no discernable movememnt when powered up, and it sounds horrible!  When I opened up the speakers after the crash there were bits of coil and magnets broken away from the mounting board, I just superglued them back in position, could their be more damage here than I thought?  Your thoughts would be appreciated,  Jeff

Martin/Dillen has a heap of speaker drivers for sale in the For Sale thread, check it out and see if there are any drivers which match your requirements.

The seller refunded my money and told me to keep them!  I think its time to upgrade to silver membership!
