    Beogram 5005

Not having much luck with my Beograms lately!!

This one has stopped working for some reason. Press start it tracks and lowers as it should but the tracking arm seems to have stopped following the record and the needle arm just widens and after it looks like a V shape it stops and returns. It will move when the << is pressed and >> It just wont track across the record with the needle down.

One thing both arms seem a bit loose i.e if I lift the right hand side of the beogram up they fall to the middle. ??

    Thanks

The fault you describe here is typical of arm servo failure. In my experience it has always been either bulb or photo-resistor failure but it could be a simple rubber drive band.

    Many Thanks

The motor and band that drives the arms across seems to work as I can forward and reverse the tonearm to the end of the record and back. I feel it may be bulb or photo resistor?? Is this bad???

Both available as spares from B&O when I last ordered some (2 years or so ago). Fiddly but not technically dificult job to do.

    Download the service manual first.
