    RS232

Anyone know what type RS232 cable i need between my BeoSystem 3 and Panasonic display? When googling RS232 you get various formats, etc..

Is it male-male 9 pin I need or?

Everything is in boxes in storage - so I cant get to it and check the connectors.

    Re: RS232

The BS3 has a DB9 male connector, the Panasonic a DB9 female (i.e. the cable is a male-female one). BUT - I'm having no luck getting the BS3 to control the Panasonic - either by RS232 or IR.  For RS232 control, past advice was to turn off Panel Autodetect in the Customer Service Menu then tell the BS3 it has a B&O panel.  The autodetect option went away it seems (I have a separate post on that) - at least in the US software versions I've seen (4.24a, 5.02).

If you (or anyone else) gets it working, let me know.

Make sure you have a straight RS232 cable, not a nulmodem version.

It only has 3 leads inside. You can even solder one yourself.

The 3 leads are, ground, TX and RX.

RX goes to TX and TX goes to RX.. That's it.

@ djmp; Beogen has a BS3 connected through RS232 with a pana panel and it works.

@beobuddy - thanks.  I'll send him a note to see what his config is.

By straight you mean 1-1, 2-2, etc like this:

    Re: RS232

    Hi Christian,

By straight I meant "normal", nothing special.

    So that would be :

    ground (5) to ground (5)

    RX (2)      to    TX(3)

    TX(3)        to    RX(2)

Searching through the service manual I also saw that the DVI cable used is from the type DVI Dual Link.

    Re: RS232

Thanks for the reply, but still just slightly confused about this straight, direct, normail vs null, crossed cable

Would the below cable do the trick you think?

    ----

D type 9 pin to 9 pin, male to female serial RS232, modem, EGA lead, 2M

    FAQ
D type 9 pin to 9 pin, male to female serial RS232, modem, EGA lead, 2M These 9 pin to 9 pin D type, DB9 male plug to female socket leads can be used in many serial RS232 and EGA monitor applications.

Full connected, wired pin to pin, i.e. 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc. 9 way male to 9 way male lead.

    ----

I don't have a DVI module for my TH50PF10. I have the Dual HDMI module, which I was told would be better (something to do with 24fps). That means I will be connecting my BS3 via a DVI-HDMI adaptor and then a HDMI cable to 1 input of the HDMI module on the panasonic panel.

Can you see any issues doing it this way?

    Re: RS232

I still have some doubts about your setup.

You have a 2 ports hdmi module in the panasonic.

So how do tell the BS3 to use the right slot/port?

Normaly a DVI module is used in slot 1 and the RS232 port sends the signal to "scan" the slot for video.

But now in this slot there are 2 ports, so probably extra input is needed from the BS3.

About the 24fps. Correct me if I'm wrong. The source which produces the 24fps video is connected to the BS3.

Can the BS3 handle these 24fps videosignals? Does it already have a "pass through"?

Normally the BS3 does the scaling and the panel functions only as a monitor. So does it need a 24fps handling?

As I've seen in the BV9 service manual, the DVI has 4 seperate data streams, which all are used. At first sight the hdmi doesn't have all these signals. So why use hdmi if DVI suits the job? (I thought the PF10 series has a DVI input as standard? But it seems not?)
