Got my Beomaster 6000 Quad Fixed!
Very pleased today as I picked up my Beomaster 6000 Quad at long last after it went in for repair with Tim Jarman. It's a real Beoworld effort this one: Beoworld inspired me to get one after seeing some photos on the old forum, then Craig kindly let me have this one for a very reasonable price. Nigel (H1NPW) generously offered to taxi it to and from Tim Jarman's house in Hampshire, and look after it in between. Thanks to one and all :)
We're moving in less than a month, so I don't have anywhere to set it up at the moment, but I've been using it tonight through my Beovox Pentas with my Mac Powerbook as a source. I'm really surprised by the sound quality actually, as quite a few people (including Tim) warned me that it wasn't B&O's greatest amp ever, but it seems very capable - testament to Tim's skills no doubt.
Anyway, I think I might set it up in our new home office when we move, but here's a quick photo just to show you all what you're missing ;)

Glad to hear it's all fixed. Always thought the sound was good too, unless it's just my ears.

It does - still listening to it :)
Had a few beers now, so anything probably sounds high fidelity after some alcohol :P
Pentas are not the easiest speakers to drive, and I'm really impressed. In the same league as the Beomaster 5000 at moderate volumes, but nothing touches the Beomaster 8000 though

Peter :
Tim did say that he is never fixing another one!!
I got the impression that he doesn't like working on these units (!) and I'm going to phone him tomorrow to say thanks This one did need some work: one output channel blown, lots of probs with the electromechanical tone, balance and volume controls, etc.
Oh, well. Another one saved and in regular use, but without people like Tim and crazy people like me who want to pay to get them fixed, there'll be none left in working order at all if we're not careful. Is this the most unreliable Beomaster ever??

The Beomaster 6000
I saw the note "Tim did say that he is never fixing another one!!¤
I can fully inderstand. I have done my last BM 6000 too, I will never accept any BM6000 for restoration in the future. The reason is absolutely not that I don't like the set - I think is is a very nice design - the sound quality is good when driving the speakers it is designed for.
The problem --- I think, for me it is nearly not possible to make a full restoration at the quality a classic product require. The BM600 is not easy to service, fixing one prolem - vreates two new problems because of the construction.
The BM 6000 is however impressive, if you consider the functionality and this is a design from the mid seventies.

Re: Got my Beomaster 6000 Quad Fixed!
If anyone has working BM6000 then I'd wrap it in cotton wool, as it will be worth a small fortune in a few years as no one wants to fix them, and they are invariably broke whenever they do appear on eBay!

Re: Got my Beomaster 6000 Quad Fixed!
One of the main problems I would think is the lack of space inside. Anyone who has looked inside one of these will know what I mean.

I don't have anywhere for it to go in this house, but I might put a few pictures up later if I listen to it this evening.
In our new flat I think I might use it in the home office - not 100% sure yet.
Talking to Tim Jarman I get the idea that as this unit was never made in huge numbers, B&O didn't get chance to rationalise the internal architecture, and this means that production units were pretty much assembled looking like prototypes - hence some of the faults that are common. Craig's right about the lack of space. So much packed into the casing. Very heavy too!

What speakers are you going to use with it John? Will you be using 4 or just 2?

Hi Craig
At the moment I'm using two MC120.2s. Just boxed up my BC8004 that I've been using with the Beosystem 6000, and that freed up enough space in the cabinet to squeeze the 6000 Quad in. Using a speaker switch box to swap between the two Beomaster 6000s!
When we move I'm thinking about using my CX50s and a Cona with it in the office. Would love to use it in 4 channel mode, but I don't have a BG6000 or any quad records, so I'm a bit stuck really!
Could really do with the Commander - wish I had taken the one you had off your hands when I bought this!

Look after it - a classic design that I nearly bought years ago, but fortunatley quad died out before I splashed out! Oh, and well done on the remote to go with it! It is amazing what eventually shows up on ebay!

Re: Got my Beomaster 6000 Quad Fixed!
Say what you want about eBay, but less than a week after picking up my Commander-less Beomaster 6000 4 Channel amp, I've bought, received and cleaned up a Commander from eBay. Thanks to Craig for spotting it, Ray for selling it to me, and Mr Muscle glass cleaner for the shiny finish.
Not where I plan to keep it all the time as it will be in the office in our new place, but here it is on display in my spare room with a load of other B&O stuff that I'm running out of room for (don't know why, but I had an idea in my head that the Commander would be a 20 pack of fags size):
