    Beosound 1 - Funny noises

    Hi!

My Beosound 1 makes funny sounds, as if something's cracking. This happens after I play a CD and turn it off. Sounds like it comes from the back. Not from the speakers for sure.

    Any similar experiences?

does it sort of sound like something is cooling?  I had a BS1 and after it had played for a bit then turned off it sounded similar to a car exaust cooling...I took it back but the dealer and service centre "couldnt hear it"

Yeah i didn't experience any crackling, but maybe it's the CD part cooling. Mine has a high pitched hiss from the power supply, doesn't sound like your problem is serious, just irritating.

Dude 1 of course they didn't hear it, they'd have to spend hours and fix it

jon, do u mean the hissing or the crackling?

Sometimes, the crackling is pretty loud. Sounds like popping even.

What are you meaning here? That the repair centre have an interest in not repairing the beosound 1?

If so; then you are of course mistaken.

Yeah, its funny that no one but myself could hear this noise.  I mean you would expect the technicians to have reasonable ears, when dealing with high end hifi...

Anyway, i got rid of mine, it was NZ $3K and a sanyo stereo for $100 doesnt seem to make odd noises...

Mine cracks sometimes after I turn it off after I've been playing it for a while.  I have always assumed it is some parts contracting (after having expanded from the heat generated by the unit) similar to what a car does after you turn it off.  It is sometimes quite loud, but it has never really bothered me.

I can understand a service department having difficulty reproducing the problem.  It doesn't happen always (at least for me), and probably depends on how long the unit is played as well as the temperature of the room.

It has something to do with the temperature of the room, the B&O technicians would have a heated space to be working in, i live in a warm climate, and never heard the crackling sound, as the temperature didn't really change.

Are you guys in a cold room when this sound occurs?

Loud cracking plastic is exactly what I get. I guessed it was the contraction of some materials as well.

Not sure abt climates, as I had those sounds when I was living in hot & humid Asia and still have them here in freezing Europe.

Never had those noises when the set was 1-2 years old, but now that it's like 5 years old, it's making them. Signs of old age?
