Beovision 1 not responding to Beo 4

HI, I hope a more technical person than me can help and as this is my first post be easy on me!

I have just returned from holiday during which time my BV1 was switched off at the front panel.  I switched it on but probably too quickly changed the sound volume control and/or programme and the BV1 froze then wouldn’t respond to the Beo4.   I turned the power off the BV1 and back on again but still cannot get it to respond to the Beo4 and now it just remains on standby.

Can anyone help me understand what have I done wrong and how I can fix it?

Turn the power off and wait for more than 15 min.

Than you will need to write your pin code again.

Please don't do that if you don know your PIN.

Did you check your beo4 ?

Re: Beovision 1 not responding to Beo 4

Hi, many thanks for quick reply.  Oops, I powered off for more than 15 minutes, in fact I left the power off all day!  I powered up then after some time switched on from the BV1 front switch and left for some time before trying the remote again, with no joy.  I didn't know about the PIN and I am sure I don't have one.  So how do I check the Beo4?  Regards.

As far as I know every BV1 have PIN code, and if it switched off from main electricity for more than 15 min you need to enter PIN code again with beo4. This is protection from stealing.

So if you don't have PIN code maybe you should not play with that !

I'm assuming that problem is with beo4

You should wait for someone who is more technical to replay ...

    Hi:

If you have any other b&o equipment see if it operates that. If not get a mobile phone with a camera, point the lens at the infra-red emitter at the front of the remote (so you can see it on the view finder) and depress any of the buttons. If a flash of light is viewable through the camera phone then the remote is functioning. If not the remote could be broken or may need new batteries (hopefully).

Also, sorry if this is insulting your intelligence, but have you tried checking what the display of the Be04 says (if it is on radio for example it won't work on the TV).

    Thanks

    Graham

Re: Beovision 1 not responding to Beo 4

Hi, thanks for the support guys.

I've checked the remote through a camera and its functioning.  Don't worry, at this stage, nothing will insult my intelligence!  Yes, it shows TV.  The annoying thing is, the BV1 responded when I first switched it on but just froze when I was too quick (I think) with the Beo4.

    Any more thoughts?

    Regards, Reg.

Right, so does the TV switch on at all or does it just remain in stand-by? I think that unless it recieves a command from the beo4 it stays in stand-by. However, my gutt feeling is that a component has blown on the TV and your being too quick is just coincidence.

If not, you could try reprograming the beo4 but I cannot remember how to do this and think I am stabbing in the dark here.

    Thanks

Doesn't sound good! :( Try checking the option between the remote and the TV

press list and stand-by at the same time, then scroll through with < > until you see option on the Beo4, then press 1...

Also try unplugging tv from power outlet for the entire day and come back to it.

Call a technician if nothing else prevails :(

    GreenGiant,

A Very warm welcome to Beoworld and I am sorry to hear about the problems with your Beovision 1.

I suggest you do the following test:-

    • Press the TV key on the Beo4 and watch the standby light while you are pressing the button, it should briefly go out if it has received the Beo4 command. Does it do this ?

If the RED led briefly goes out when a button is pressed it means the command is received, but its "option" setting may have somehow been reset. The default option is "1"

To reset the "option" number on the Beo4 do the following:-

    • Press the RED (Standby) button and the LIST button at the same time
    • Use the UP/DOWN arrows to select "OPTION?" then press GO
    • Select V.OPT press 1

Now check if the TV comes on..

    Regards Keith....

Re: Beovision 1 not responding to Beo 4

Many thanks to Keith, Dave and Graham for you support.

I have just checked the response of the standby light and it does not go out or show any indication of a signal being received.  As an insurance, I have set V Opt to 1 and when I do the Beo4 shows TV.

Again, no response from the BV1.

Sorry for consuming your time on this one.  I was hoping it was something simple!

     Regards, Reg.

    Reg,

Given your feedback, then I regret to inform you that you almost certainly have one of the most common Beovision 1 faults.

You will need to contact your B&O dealer because the most likely problem will be the microprocessor and/or eeprom.

    Regards Keith....

Re: Beovision 1 not responding to Beo 4

Keith, Many thanks for the information.  My wife has asked if you have an idea of the potential cost as we have now sat down with a cup of tea to brace ourselves.  Of course I shall contact my dealer but the way forward would give us something to talk about this evening!

    Best wishes, Reg.

    Hi Reg,

Not sure if you saw my response to your message, but please get in contact and I can take a look at it for you.

Be prepared for the main dealers to charge you £50 to remove the back before they even look at it.

    Regards, Neil

I'm with Keith here. If the stanby led don't blink, when you program option. it's the microprocessor and eeprom.

Gentlemen, you are correct ... the Processor/Eprom is shot.  I have just got it up and running now with a spare.
