DPL for old Avant 28inch VCR

I have cable ( Virgin ) not Sky, and the set top box is connected to the Avant using a SCART cable, most programmes broadcast sound pretty good on this Avant that we have in our bedroom, but now I am thinking that it would be nice to add DPL ( Dolby Pro Logic) to the Avant

    http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=boavantdolbyprologicmod.jpg

I am presuming from the above picture that the Avant speakers become the centre channel, and the four powerlink connectors in the picture are for two active speakers for the front L and R stereo, and two active speakers for the rears, but can anyone confirm if this is true ?

In the meantime I had a quick read of the wiki

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Pro_Logic

and I am confused, because I cannot figure out if this module for the Avant is going to give me DPL or DPL II  ??

    All this is true.

In addition you might want to add a subwoofer, too. (Any active one will do it...no need for B&O here, had a KEF myself)

But, you can always start with center and fronts (left and right) and add sub and rears later.

Don't worry about DPL II or I or DTS or .... You won't be able to tell... just enjoy the enhanced sound experience.

so the four powerlink connectors on the module, what speakers go into each connection, there are 4 on the module, and if we are now getting DPL II , which is 5.1, one of those connectors must be for the sub woofer.

The image below shows how to connect the speakers. If you want to add a Beolab2
plug it into one of the front connectors. The front speakers can then be connected to
the Beolab2 (PL-Out) or the remaining front connector on the surround module.

ah, many thanks to you both, it was the four powerlink connectors that threw me, if it were 3 or 5 connectors I would have figured it out by myself, but 4 seemed odd.

what is the fourth used for, another sub for the rears maybe ??

just to confirm, the centre speaker is now from the Avant -  yes ?

    2 front + 2 rear = 4 connectors

Yes, the Avant speaker will act as center

OK, that makes more sense !

the diagram you found is misleading, because it looks like one powerlink to both front speakers, and the other to both rears, it could have been better drawn to show four powerlink cables to the 4 speakers, that would have been much clearer for me.

That's because you can have one powerlink cable to both speakers, as they carry left and right signals in the same cable.
This means you can daisy chain. ie  Avant to left speaker, then out of the left speaker and into the right one.

If you want the 5.1 Dolby the Avant module is different tot he 4 socket Pro logic one.

The DSS X-Tra Surround Kit has a socket for the front 2, socket for the rear 2 and a 3rd socket for the sub.

Not a cheap option at £300 RRP but I've managed to get one and was looking to have a go at replacing my Pro-Logic unit with it.

Looks like you need a newer Avant for it to work though.......

that sounds more what I thought B&O would have, at least they got it right for the later models, do you want to sell your Pro Logic surround module ?
