BV7-40 MkIII Time to switch between inputs

Gentlemen, it is a pleasure to join the community. I have spent some months reading through much of the content and individual views on certain aspects of B&O. I do hope some of you can shed some light on what might be an issue with a BV7-40 MkIII

I have recently upgraded from an AVANT 32/DVD to a BV4-40 MkIII. Connected to the BV7 is a Samsung (Jan '09) Sky HD box and Apple TV.

Using the system over the last three/four weeks I have noticed that it takes a very long time to switch between inputs.

As an example if I am using DTV and switch over to Sky HD (V-AUX) it takes 7 (yes 7!) seconds before picture and sound are present. Similar time when switching to Apple TV (V-MEM)

I have the Apple TV configured to allways on and the Sky HD box to standby when the BV-7 is off.

I never had this problem on the Avant (switching from SKY + to TV or DVD). Has anybody else experienced this issue? or dare I say is this normal?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

    You need a software upgrade.

This will also speed up time to bring up text tv, and will change the look of the OSD from Grey to Black.

What version should I be at? I have just checked and I have 5.02 which was the one that changed the OSD from Grey to black and over to the left.

I belive HD Pictures take in general longer until they build up and are ready to go. Since the Avant diden't had HD, this might be what you experience.

Does it take less time when you switch to an Input that isen't configured to an HD Device?

good thought let me try with something else connected.

Although it's the same even when it's a non HD on Sky that is selected

Re: BV7-40 MkIII Time to switch between inputs

The switch will take longer as the BeoVision needs to 'hand-shake' with the source.

When using (for example) scart or component, the signal is 'simple' analog which the TV needs to do very little with in order to display an image. When using HDMI, the TV needs to talk to the source (whether it's Apple TV or Sky HD etc...), retrieve information such as image resolution, start decoding the sound input etc... there's actually quite a lot going on there.

This is the same for all televisions on the market, and there's very little that can be done about it - it's simply the way the HDMI standard works.

Thanks Alex, that does make sense. Although a shame because I don't get the beautiful B&O curtain effect when switching off and on because it takes so long to display the picture the curtains are open to a blank screen.

just a very generic reply regarding the curtain during on and off... i did not see what remote you were using.

-and i am not using the same gear.

i had a similar issue and programmed the tv to turn on "last" and turn off "first" during startup and shutdown respectively including a pause between commands... regaining the curtain effect.

Jeff, I am using Beo5 at the moment however thinking of going back to Beo4.

Although my dealer told me the BV7 does not have the curtain effect for power on only for off
