    Apple TV questions

Sorry if the answers to these questions are already here and I did not find them.  We have a BV7 MKIII with a Beosound 3000 in the main room. We have speakers in a link room. In the third room we have a PC with Beoport. We also have iTunes which I control with an iTouch. To listen to iTunes in the main room or the link room I press N MUSIC followed by STOP on the BEO 4 and then use the iTouch to operate iTunes. I was considering getting an Apple TV and connecting it directly to the BV7.  My questions are what if anything would I gain with Apple TV with music?

Specifically   is the music stored on the Apple TV or does it just get the music wirelessly from the PC?  If it is wirelessly transmitted from the PC to the Apple TV is there any loss of sound quality?

If I connect Apple TV to the BV7 what will operate differently? Can I still use the iTouch? Will I be able to view the cover art on the BV7 while using the iTouch?

Just trying to decide whether any increase in  functionality would be present to justify purchasing the Apple TV.

Ideally I would like to be able to continue to operate the system as I do now as well as being able to have cover art on the BV7 if desired.

    Thanks!

Apple TV syncs with your itunes library just like an Ipod, so yes it stores the music on it's own hard drive.  It does do that syncing over a wireless connection though.

It will not work with beoport, you would have to select a different source, maybe PC , from the linkroom.

With the MK3 BV7 you can control the ATV from the Beo 4, may require a software update. The Itouch would work too though.

Personally, for me the ATV became only interesting once I hacked it and installed a proper video application on it that reads my movies from a shared drive. I stopped using it for music, don't like the user interface even though i am intrigued using the Ipod touch as a remote.

There is not really an increase for you, besides that the ATV can truely run without keyboard which is something that is important for me in the living room.

    Cheers

Thanks!  So once the ATV has synced with the PC there is no need to leave the PC on for the iTunes on the ATV to work?

Does the ATV turn off and on, or is it constantly on?  I did not see an on/off button when looking at it on the Apple web page.

You can do both if you please. You can sync, you can also share your library in itunes and the ATV will see that.

Its constantly on, it does have a standby mode though - doesnt make much off a difference for energy consumption I believe sO i dont use it.

Where I have really grief with that thing is, it is overloaded with presenting content from the itunes store. The way the UI is designed, your own content is pushed somewhat in the back. I wish they would make that simpler.

I use mine for watching Hulu and my own videos, I installed boxee.tv on it which is sort of perfect for me.

    Re: Apple TV questions

    Hi,

Yes I saw that. That is a big throwback for Boxee. I am not sure I understand. Only thing of concern I could see was the Apple TV installation, as it could cut into Itunes revenue for TV shows. I don't think many people have a full fledged PC in the living room, while ATV did hit the 1 million unit mark recently if I am not mistaken. I still like boxee for how they manage movies ....
