    Stupid Serene question

    Hi,

Am the owner of a Serene, and according to all references I can find, it should be possible to integrate my Serene with my Beocom 6000 and Beosound 2. However, and this is my question, how do I go about doing it???

It depends what you mean by integrate - it will share the phonebook but that is all. It cannot be used as an extra DECT phone. The base will communicate with the Beoline to exchange phonebooks. I didn't find it that useful!

LOL! Great question! I have been strugglin with this very point myself since recently buying a Serene. I didn't realise until it was too late that it integrates the opposite way to what I initally thought! In other words, the BeoCom 6000 phonebook overwrites the Serene entries, NOT the other way round! As a result, I lost half my contacts!

Nevermind, its all a laugh. Check the guide and its all in their. If you don't have one handy, from memory you go into the Seren settings (Serene has to be in charger and open) then there is an obvious menu selection (which I have forgotten!) that you simply follow to transfer phone entries etc. You will probably have to reset (with a pin) your PSTN box when the Serene starts looking for the base units around the house. That was the part that caught me out initally. All the best! By the way, do it in the daytime if you have your ring levels set to medium of loud! I did this at mignight and got some serious complaints from my neighbours the following morning! Especially the ringer of the BeoCom 2!!!

    Simon.

    Hi all,

    A quick question...

I have a pyramid based 6000 network (USA). I have (6) handsets in use. Does the Serene dock consume a position in the base? (i.e.) Must I remove a handset and have (5) + the dock?

    Thanks in advance,

    Yes Jeff.
Five handsets and a Serene Dock = 6.
If you are just testing something for Simon, you could always temporarily remove one handset.

    Thanks Andy!

    No, not for Simon!

I now have a second Serene in the house. This one has the proper dock that synchs with the BeoComs. Prior, I only had the generic desktop charger.

I thought I would ask the question in preparation to a first synchronization this evening (might save some hair pulling).

I guess the decision now is: Which handset do I use least? Sad <or> Do I buy a BeoLine? Smile <and> a BeoCom2 now? Big Smile

    Re: Stupid Serene question

    Ha!

I think the  new square Beoline takes 8 handsets so that seems like your obvious choice. You will then have a spare 'slot' for another handset. If you feel you really must use the Beoline to its full potential, I wouldn't bother with the ridiculous Beocom 2, after all its just a phallic symbol. Just wait til this year's new Beocom (speaker-'phone) comes out. It is supposed to be compatible.

PS if you feel inadequate, by all means get a Beocom 2.

Ah! Something I was not even thinking about! I would love a speakerphone!

The truth is that I have been considering doing away with landlines entirely... though I have been considering making the jump to BeoLine + BeoCom2 at the same time! Oh decisions!

For now, I think I will simply extract the least used handset, and wait to see what the speakerphone BeoCom looks like.

But, on the other hand... (you get the idea!) Super Angry

    ++++EDIT++++

    BeoLine + (5) of my existing 6000 handsets + (1) BeoCom2 + (1) Serene Dock + (1) empty slot for the new BeoCom! Laughing

WHOA! Will my Mk1 6000's work with a BeoLine? <researching>

Tut tut, mk1 phones will not work with mk2 base. You might be able to hear the ring tone once but then you can't reply, however I think you can make external calls... Therefore in other words, useless... Shame really.

    Tim,

Just returning from the FAQ's here as you posted... What a shame!

Also, I started thinking about transferring all of my contacts! ARGH!

I suppose I would be literally starting the network from scratch with all new gear. I will have to really think about this, as I mentioned... I was considering dropping landlines altogether.

Well, I'll do the synch tonight and chew on it!

In the meantime, any US dealers out there in BeoWorld have any trade in deals??? Smile

Hi Jeff. Its a shame, I know... Personally I don't think ots worth changing to an mk2 system, you only seem to get 2 more handsets. Also mk1 bases are compatible with the mk2 phones I think...
