    Cartridges...Some Options..

Hi:  I currently own a Beomaster 8000, Beocord 9000, Beogram 8002, and MS150 speakers.  Most of my listening is to piano recordings, chamber music, lieder, orchestral--in that order.  I am considering purchasing a brand new B&O cartridge.   I have four optons that are currently available (at different prices, of course)--new B&O cartridges in sealed boxes, ie new old stock.  They are the MMC3, MMC2, and the MMC1; there are also the Soundsmith equivalents.  Any advice about the relative merits of the cartridges and their value vs. cost would be greatly appreciated.  Donald

    Hi Donald.
    Love your taste in musicSmile

I would be reluctant to spend much money on new old B&O cartridges.  Even though not in use, they do deteriorate with time.
That is not to say, you may be lucky, but if finances allow, I would most certainly go the Soundsmith route. B&o recommend them, and many BeoWorlders reckon they are actually better than the original B&O cartridges.

    Andy,

I can certainly vouch for the quality of Soundsmith's cartridges (I use their SMMC4 on my own Beogram 3500), as this is excellent and real value for money.

    Regards,

    Steve.

Agree 100%. I have fitted Sound-smith SMMC4 cartridges in many of the record decks that I have supplied and they are superb.

Go for a new Soundsmith one.

Mmmm. If you can get a bargain on the MMC1 or MMC2, they might be worth a punt over a new SMMC1 or SMMC2 given the cost. Up to you if you want to take a chance....
