Re: Top 3 products in the current range?

Ignoring financials, how on earth can someone not include a BeoLab 5 in the top three? Bizarre. The BeoSound 5 is no way near the level of the lab 5s. Far too many negatives for it to be 'complete'. There are few - if any - negatives about the Lab 5s.

    You can't say a BL3 is above a BL5.

Come on now Chris, less criticism and more optimism please! Name you're 3 favourite products ... those are mine.

Re: Top 3 products in the current range?

If you had to list favourite products Simon, you cannot miss the BL5s. They'd be on everyone's wish list. So:

    1) BL5s
    2) BL9s
    3) BL3s

I'm awfully priviledged to own all three and these excel above every other B&O product I've owned recently or stil own. In fairness, I hardly ever use the BL5s but, when I do, they pick out sounds in my favourite tracks that even the BL9s do not pick up. I'm always amazed by the audio experience.

I do like the BV9, BV7-40 and Beocenter 2, but they wouldn't quite make my top 3. The Beosound 5 is far from a top 3 as it has so many flaws and is over-priced based on its current capabilities. The design is good, but that's about it. Also, where I'd hide the BM5 is anyone's guess. One day, soon, perhaps it might be what it ought to be; but not yet.

Beolab 5 (which I do not own)

Beosystem 3 Based on > 2 years experience, it still has growth potential

Beosound 9000 (which could have benefited from minor feature upgrades)

BS3 could be higher on the list, despite the issues  encountered with non B&O panels and software bugs. It's a hobby as much as an excellent piece of electronics.Stick out tongue

Re: Top 3 products in the current range?

My top three would be as follows and stand for the epitome of what B&O is about:-

    1. BeoLab 5.         A unique solution to loudspeakers. World Class
    2. BeoSound 1      A different solution for “portable” and sound quality. Useful machine.
    3. Beo4                A simple remote which sets the standard for B&O quality and a remote all others are measured by.

There are other devices which fulfil one role or another but not as entirely as the products above. The BS5 for instance could be there but it is too new (and I don’t agree with others that it has bits missing – it has a specific role rather than a jack-of-all trades and is a very capable machine to play music) to make the cut. Same goes for the BeoVisions. Not because they don’t have enough HMDI connects or the latest panel or because they cost so much, rather that they are “ordinary” from a B&O perspective in that they do not readily engage someone to touch and feel. Eye candy, hands-off appeal only.

Choosing different types of products my top 3 would be:

Beolab 5 - awesome (enough said)

    Beosound 5 - beautiful

    Beo 5 - eye catching

Soon to be the owner of a Beo 5 but unless my numbers come up the other 2 are long in the future for me!! This coming from a chap who is looking for some Mk3 Pentas as i love them so much!!

    1.  BL5

    2.  BL9

    3.  BL3

Why is it that these are in inverse price order!

TVs are still evolving too much (digital, HD etc) and are over priced!

    1. Beosound 9000

    2.  Beolab 8000

    3. Beolab 3500

The ALT speakers may be hurting B&O's business more than helping?   The 3's and the 9's are just not attractive to most significant others and the 5's are too expensive for normal people.

tbh i don't think anything in the current range can hold a candle to bno's gratest hits

the amazing beogram 4004 , the beomaster 1900 or the still staggering  beosystem 8000

the stuff nowadays bores me rigid in comparison

now that gear , that had REAL MAGIC !!!

I mostly agree with Flappo though, other than the BL5's the current range don't float my boat as some of the vintage stuff does. Take something as recent as the BC9500 where the magic was everywhere from how it functioned right through to the design compared to the black boxes offered by its competitors - no contest.

But the OP asked for favourites in the current range so those are mine.

Does the Beovision 4 103" count? Big Smile

I will love to own the BV9 also, but i will buy a 2.nd hand BV5 because I just love it (size and design), and if I ever get a BV9 then the BV5 can be used in the bedroom Big Smile

    BeoSound 1

The BeoSound 1 is often overlooked as more of an accessory - shame IMO as it's truly a fantastic piece of kit and IMO the best compact system on the market.

Oh does the Beo 4 count?

beolab5 ...  on its merit of soundquality alone...  not design

beosound 9000... still the most fantastic multi-cd player ever made... as gorgeous now as it was when it was introduced. A true delight to watch as much as to listen to.

beolink 1000... still use it every day, though I have a beo4... the only remote that 'feels' good in your hand and true proof that good design (I see the beo4 only as a successor to the BL1000) never outdates. Still has everything that a good, simple remote has to offer and became the blueprint of almost all remotes produced, even to this day.

    BeoLab 5 (game.. set.. match)

Beo 4 (we're using it every day and everyone (exept %10) seems to have forgotten about it

    BS 9000

    Runners up: BV9

Going for bronze: BeoSound 5 (in my opinion a perfect new audio product!!!! A descent replacement for the BS9000)

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

Yes I agree, I think the BS5 is a very good first effort from B&O for the digital age. All credit to the designers who have still managed to create a product that gives the user that interaction/touch/feel experience. Very nicely done because I am sure if any of us were to come up with an idea like that we'd be hard pushed to do so. Well done! Equal credit of course also goes to the brilliant minds at B&O that bring those designs into reality. The manufacturing process must also be second to none. What a great package. I have high hopes for the BS5 and I think they are on to a winner. What excites me the most is what is to come.

    Simon.
