    BG 5000 playing very quietly

I'm looking for some advice before I open this up and start poking around in it.  Everything seems to be funcitoning properly, but when playing a record, with the BM5000 at or near max volume, I can bearly hear the sound.  I have tried different cartridges and different turntables to eliminate problems with the input or the cartridge itself - those are fine.

So where to start?  Loose wires in the tonearm?  I have the service manual, but I was hoping someone out there would be able to offer some guidance!

I also have two non-working BG5000's for parts.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Check the DIN plug first - may just be a loose wire. If that is fine, I suppose the mute relay would be my next suspect.

The DIN plug does have some electrical tape around it - I'll check that first.  I do have some new 7-pin plugs and could replace it.  Thanks!

    Hmmm, did it work before?

The BG5000 has no RIAA amplifier, so it is quite normal that you hear almost nothing when connected to a standard input. Which Beomaster do you use?

You need a Beomaster with an RIAA input channel or an externel RIAA amplifier, otherwise you hear ... nothing !

It is connected to a Beomaster 5000, so the RIAA amp is there.  I've also plugged in my BG3300 and it works just fine - so the problem lies in the BG5000 itself.  I am going to follow Peter's advice and check the DIN plug first, but I probably won't be able to get to it until the weekend.
