I can't see why not, but I also fail to see why. Beo4 uses extremely little power (probably a fraction of the amount NiMH batteries discharge by themselves when disconnected) and the cell voltage would be a little low to begin with. You would probably be recharging them every other month.
I recommend Energizer Lithiums. In applications like this they can last five times longer than alkaline batteries (it is not just ad speak!) and will not go old so fast. I have yet to replace a single one since I started putting them in all my remotes.
