    Master Control Panel 5500

My master control panel is not sending out volume when I turn the wheel.  I was wondering if it was the batteries, but I can't seem to open the panel on the back where it looks like they might be housed.  I am afraid to force it open as I may break something.  I do not have a manual.  I picked up this system used over a year ago.  It has been perfect to date.  Can anyone tell me the proper procedure for replacing the batteries, or opening the compartment underneath the contro panel?  Thank you. Joey

Turn the panel towards you until its controls are resting on some soft material - (a cloth spread on your knees is not too bad for this!).  The battery panel should then be on the left hand side.  It slides towards the foot  - use a thumb nail to gain some extra purchase and slide to the left (assuming you have the two feet at the front nearest you).  The battery cover should then slide out and up.  Replacement is the reverse.

You have done well to have the batteries last this long!Smile

Thank you Brian!  I have successfully opened the compartment ... took more than a thumbnail ... I got a thin nail file in there and was able to push it out without breaking!  Ah, the simple things in life ... 4 D batteries!

    thank you again,

If new batteries will not help, do a simple test: does the MCP "wake up" by just turning the wheel? If it does, but still doesn't move the volume bar, you probably have a problem with the optical encoder connected to the wheel. Not impossible to fix (and should not be too expensive either) but will probably require a serviceman familiar with these units.

If it doesn't wake up from the wheel, there are a couple of contacts which may need cleaning. This is an easier job.

I agree the batteries lasted a long time if you have never replaced them Smile I think the display should start to blink when the batteries get weak, but I haven't had my MCP long enough to find out for sure - I saw it once, but have since been using it for at least a month or two... it's not my main remote though.

Well, replaced batteries, but no luck.  It's the same as before, get's halfway, and stops at the middle ... I guess I'll take it to be looked at.

    Thanks for the help.
