Re: Beolab 8000 + non-B&O sources
First off, welcome.
I have the reverse of you're situation, I have a BeoSystem4500 which now runs JBL floorstanders. I run the B&O signal through a Yamaha Natural Sound R-7, which then makes the connection possible.
For you, however, things should be much easier. As familiar as I am with B&O speakers (not with the BL8000 unfornutely), they should also be able to be supported by two bare wire leads in addiotion to the power link. The only B&O speakers that I know for sure that have this feature are the BeoVox 5000s.
I'm sure more informative replies will follow.

Re: Beolab 8000 + non-B&O sources
Using RCA/Cinch cables and the pre-out of your amplifier (so - non amplified output), in theory. Not all AVR work, for example. I always had a hum I couldn't get rid off.
But worth a try!
Remember to set the speakers to line!

Yes.
Also I believe switching to "line" mode renders the speakers as passive, they will no longer be active as they will be solely powered by you're receiver or what have you.

No, this is not true! You use pre-outs to line-in.

Re: Beolab 8000 + non-B&O sources
Hi,
Ralf is correct, the Beolab 8000 remains active when in Line mode, the difference is that they no longer switch on when the B&O source triggers them. Instead, they listen for sounds through the audio channel and switch on automatically, staying on until the music has been silent for 3 minutes, when they go back into standby.
They do need to be connected to volume-controlled pre-out (ie. non-amplified) sockets to avoid damaging the speakers.
Best regards,
Steve.
