AVANT 28" 50hz White areas looking pink!! Help!!

Hi fellow B&O users. My 1996 Avant is still in pristine condition picture showing fine too except recently noticed that the white areas on screen are looking pink. I have tried turning colour down. Not much difference. Any advice would be most welcome. I dont't really want to change my set, what could i possibly replace it with the sound system alone on this TV is exceptional. Thanks..

Hello and welcome to Beoworld. Sounds as though the tube in you Avant need replacing. Quite a common problem now with older Avants. Replacement just is not worth it as I believe it cost somewhere in the region of £600-700.

You can check how many hours of viewing it has had  - that should be a better guide to tube life rather than simply the age.  Otherwise I suspect it is a question of finding a good used one....

Try searching for the term 'service counters' in the forum. There's a sequence of keys to hit on the Beo 4 that brings up the service counters - hours the tube has been used appears here. Somewhere on the service counter thread is a guide to what's an average lifetime for an Avant tube, so you can see if yours is under/over the average lifespan.

Personally I hink it has given good value at almost 28000 hours use - £6-£700 for a new tube fitted for a 28 seems a little on the high side - would seem to be theprime suspect from this distance!

    Thankyou all for your comments.

Can anyone suggest  an economic way round this issue.

Looking on eBay recently you could get lucky and pick up a VHS RF 28" Avant for £300. At half the price of a new tube, I know what I'd do! Get the seller to tell you how many days of action the tube has seen, and go for one that's had an easy life :)

Re: AVANT 28" 50hz White areas looking pink!! Help!!

Dear all after much deliberation I finally decided to take my TV to  & B&O approved repair shop. They suggested they could BOOST the Tv and it will either work or completely fail.  The Tv is now back home and picture is like new. I'm over the moon on this one. There is no gurantee how long it will last but it shows fine. They told me they boosted it cleaned it and re-aligned all which cost me £85.  Thank you all for you advice & help. This may help others before they try and sell it on ebay for a £100 !

Excellent news - I love my Avant and have to admit to a slightly sinking feeling every time I turn it on and hear the tube power up, as I know one day it will all end in tears!!!
