    AV7000....what exactly is it?

I am sure this has been addressed before, but I cant find a quick link.

There is an AV7000 on ebay that I am interest in (i.e. not too expensive and near where I live in the US)

What does it do and why would I want it?

Currently I have my Philips LCD connected to my Bs3200 system...... how would this make my life better?

Think you are getting mixed up with an AV9000 John. AV7000 was a dolby suround sound processor, mostly sold in North America. There were some 240 Volt versions made I believe, but they are very rare. It used 4 Active speakers and a single CX100 as the centre channel.

Yep - too much chemistry revision has driven me to distraction. I just hope I don't get homolytic and heterolytic bond fission confused in the morning...... :P :P :P :P

My glib response was clearly too quick and ill thought through!

The AV7000 was brought out for the US market as there was not a B&O TV with a surround sound processor suitable for the market. The AV7000 provided a surround processor that also offered a central speaker amplifier. In addition, the AV7000 offered what was essentially Peripheral Unit Control as it has IR outputs which could control certain third party products.

However remember that this is an early surround processor so offers Dolby Pro-Logic  only and it will not support many modern third party products. In the UK, get a Beosystem 3!!

If you are in the UK, you don't want one! It would be used to attach a B&O system to a screen. It has the sound processor and all the speaker attachments. It means you can use your B&O sound system as a surround system with a video system which does not have the necessary attachments. The user and reference manuals are on site for silver and gold members.

What does it do...... It would let you setup a surround sound setup for your TV.

Why would you want one.........Usually the surround sound processor is in your B&O TV. This is an external one. If you want surround sound with you non B&O TV. This is what you would need.

Not sure how it would connect to you BS3200 though. You might need a Beolink converter.

Looking at the user manual you will need a converter. Needs a Powerlink connection and an Audio Aux connection from your Audio master.

Powerlink would not be a problem as you have one of these. Your Aux connection does not carry the required Datalink signals though.
