Exciting isn't it Big Smile. I must say that other than the lack of being able to add your own music to the BeoSound 5, the current software seems flawless!

What do you mean about not being able to add your own music to beosound 5. You can add music from your computer to BS5....

The ones issued to dealers initially didn't allow this but I am sure that the delivery models will be fully functional!

I will cross my fingers ;-)
At the moment I’m working on a small application that will rip and sync my music to the BM5 unit automatically, when the CD is inserted or when new music is stored on the pc

Yes I like the BS5, I am considering one for myself although if I get it I'll probably use it in the bedroom or kitchen. Not sure its good enough to replace the BS9000. Can't quite decide yet. Its a bit small and I like things to make a statement! Where do you intend to put yours Lorup?

BS5 does very little apart from playback the audio you're ripped from your CDs. It's a lot of money for something that does rather little.

If you prefer to grab a CD for playback - as you've said in the past - then the 9000 is a far different product.

That is a god question, I don’t think BS5 looks god mounted on the wall, I’m considering placing it on a table next to my sofa. It has to be easy accessible, I think you will use it as a control panel, not like BS9000, I almost newer controls my BS9000 without the Beo4.

But I’m afraid that my BS9000 has to go, since I got my BeoMedia, I only use the BS9000 for FM radio.

My thoughts exactly! Everytime I look around my flat for placement for the BS5 it always comes down to the same point ... just to the left of the sofa, wall mounted. I see it as an 'add on', a little bit of an extra gimmick around the home, definitly not as a replacement for the BS9000. Its a product thats kind of in the middle for me.

Well I suppose one shouldn't be surprised that the Danes are the first recipients!

I have ordered one; much as I enjoy Apple TV, it is a bit tedious for listening to music, (same with the BC2).

Fully expecting some time with tech support though as with most 1st generation computer products :(

    Hi Peter

Yes, it will be interesting to see how many problems there will be with this product. But I have talked to people working in Struer (off the record) and they tell me that the final version works well. And I think there are something about it, they are shipping 2 month before the planed shipping date.

I think that pejoratively remarking that an audio playback device "only" plays back audio is a bit silly! It's also not the whole truth. The BeoSound 5 is first and foremost a music discovery device. I would suspect that if we fast forwarded a few months where more of us had the opportunity to live with the feature, you'd hear different feedback on the device as a whole. I think that most people are struck by the design and the interface, but MOTS and the decompression technology make it a much more serious player than any similar device more or less expensive.

Despite my personal reservations, I'm looking forward to taking delivery on mine!

There is scarcely anything in this world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. - John Ruskin

I'm hoping to get mine on or around the 1st of Feb. It's Chinese New Year on the 26th and everything shuts down in SE Asia for 3-4 days.

Cant wait. I have recently linked up my old BeoPort and laptop to play my CD music. Cant say I'm that impressed as I used to be with the thing.

The quality (when played through the BL5's) is really flat and lacking in any dynamics. I know it's not the Beoports fault - afterall its just a remote control facilitator for the B&O system but I have a really hard time wondering how people hook up their PC's and Beoport and actually believe that they are getting decent quality music from it. Then again, it may be that my laptop is lacking a decent sound card and that the earphone jack is particularly bad on my machine.

With all due respect Trip, only a few weeks ago you were having a go at the BS5. You blow hot and cold. Want me to find the post?

For me, and for the price, it needs to do a lot more than store my audio tracks and enable me to manually find and play those tracks. At the moment, if offers very little over and above my current setup.

I must say I’m disappointed about the fact that I need 3 cables in order to connect BS with BM5.
But I don’t think that will have any problems with tripping in the cables ;-)
All my cables is mounted inside the walls and my BM1 (soon to be BM5) is located behind the wall you see on the picture.

Nice setup, but I must ask you and everyone else with knowledge, is it wise to put the BL5 so into the corner of the room, and so close to the wall as you?

I have mine a good meter from any wall, except for the right one that has a bookshelf about 50cm from it's right side, but it'd got over a meter to the back-wall.

I'm finding that they work much better while standing more freely.

I think you are right, but my living room doesn’t allow me to give the speakers more free space Sad (I need a bigger living room)
But the calibration should correct some of it. I have no problems with the bas, it is still wary tight Smile

OK, what I also find strange is that the BL5 is often pictured in a corner and/or very tightly fit to a wall in Beo's own pictures in their brochures for example. I find it a bit strange, since putting them that close to a wall, even if the calibration does wonders can't exactly enhance the sound.
