    Beovision 4 with System 3 720p compared to Beovision 4 system 3 1080p

    Hi All,

Just after some advice here please.

Does anyone know if there is a significant difference in picture quality between a Beovision 4 with BS 3 and a 720p screen compared to a Beovision 4  with BS 3 and a 1080p screen. I believe the standard def TV may be better on the 720p screen, but is there any loss of performance when viewing an HD source.?

Bizarrely there have been three separate questions about the difference between 720p and 1080p screens in the last couple of days. I refer you to the other threads - the relevance of those discussions apply to this.

A very good question.   All I can say is viewing a 720p and 1080p BV9 at my dealer I have not noticed much difference. But there are others who I am sure can give you a much more helpful and informative answer.

All I can say is that in an un-controlled comparison between two 65" panels on the same BS-3 the resolution difference was essentially impossible to discern on an HD source.  As to SD ,I have come to trust the BS-3 and its ability to tailor the image to the screen beyond satisfaction.

Whatever fever was gripping the world has seemed to subside a little bit. I recall when the suggesting that there was no real benefit to a 1080p screen, 100/120hz refresh rate, etc. was viewed as heresy!

While there may be some real difference, we're reaching a stage of diminishing returns at least with current content being what it is. The chef is getting more talented, but the ingredients are the same, so at the end of the day, do you need Mario Batali to make your hamburger?

When we were in Struer with the group we had the opportunity to visit one of the Video testing rooms.

we were shown to Bv4-65, one HD-ready, the other full HD, both with a BS3. As far as I remember, my viewing distance was around 4 meter.

To sum this whole demnstration up: Yes you can see a noticable difference, but only with testcharts....

With Full-HD video content (in three different qualities: umcompressed, compressed on Blu-Ray level and broadcast quality) it was really hard to see any difference

Thank you for the advice, it's been useful. I have heard of problems (not necessarily with B&O) of some 720p panels finding difficulty playing Blue Ray discs, the picture stuttering and jumping, a bit like when you are trying to view a video over the internet and you don't have sufficient bandwidth. I assume the BS 3 should be able to handle any up or down scaling on a 720p panel so that this does not occur with B&O?

    Regards

According to someone on here - and I can't remember who - the BS3 apparently does a very good job downscaling to 720p. In my opinion it's always better to start with more pixels than required and downscale than try and upscale a 576 vertical image for a 1080p screen.
