Help Needed with Avant Screen Format !!

My lad keeps changing the "default" screen format somehow, so whenever the TV is turned on the picture is 4:3. It means list>format>3 to get back to widescreen, and I know there is a way of setting it to that. I changed it a few weeks ago but the little blighter has done it again......can you let me know how it's done please folks...

    Thanks,

     Craig

    Hi Craig,

Are you sure it's your lad doing this? Avants are standard 14:9 format - and will revert back to this whenever switched off. This results in the black lines down both sides of the screen.

Have you got one of the older sets with the 6 format settings, or the newer with 3?

    Muchos Gracias Cool

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply. It's the newer (2004) version, therefore has three options. The TV hasn't ever reverted back to this format until recently, and my lad powers the TV up by pressing everything!!

I have worked out that if you goto format > 3 > EXIT it seems to power up in the same choice.....14:9 is the "proper" widescreen format isn't it? Whereas the three options an Avant has are 4:3 / Zoom / 16:9. Correct me if i'm wrong....I usually am!

The 4:3 is what it powers up in, therefore a very square image is portrayed on the screen.

     Thanks again Matt,

     Craig

Are you using it with a sky box?  Check what format that is set up to as that could be the problem

    Cheers Nick

When you select the format you need to press "go" to store it bfore exiting.

You could disable pin 8 from your scart cable; this pin sends the aspect ration to the avant.

Or try using the VTAPE output of the Sky box, rather than the TV output.

On the non hd version it does not send the format info on this 2nd scart.
