Christmas - Its all about the kids.
Have you got children? Spoil them, let them know how special they are. Christmas is all about the kids. They are our future. Praise them, encourage them and love them unconditionally. Well, that's my Christmas wish to you all anyway. Have a good few days everyone and the very best for a happy and healthy new year. All the best, Simon.

Kid's are not 'special'. They are just kids! And definitely don't spoil them. Christmas is far more than 'all about the kids'. Bah - Humbug!

I think I agree with the last sentiment - our kids have long flown the nest, our policy was one of indulgence at Xmas, and one of the kids, the eldest son has turned out to be a real a*sehole - cant decide if its caused by nature or nurture! Best wishes to everyone tony

Re: Christmas - Its all about the kids.
I think christmas is about pleasuring poor and sad people. Just make them feel good, that's the whole christmas idea . Spoiling the kids is fun, but that isn't the way christmas is ment to be (or spoil kids without parents or something like that).

Re: Christmas - Its all about the kids.
Well, christmas and kids... lots of stories to tell. Just a little inside view: Our son is 7 years old, our daugther 5 years old. They both still believe that there is a Santa Claus and (in Germany a so called) Christmas kid. They both were so thankful and happy with the presents they got...(it is not about the amount you spent it is about dreams come true) it was - as always - so much fun seeing them unwrapping everything, as parents you don't care about what you got yourselves. As grown ups you just buy the stuff you desire throughout the year, but kids are so anxious for christmas... You won't understand this not having kids, but my parents said, that once we (their kids) didn't believe the stories and didn't have something to play with a christmas eve (lego, playmobil etc.), christmas was different. We can now see why. Merry Christmas to everybody, I wish we will - once in a while - be able to see the world as the kids do. Ralf

Hey - don't get too hung up about it. I'm one of 5 brother who were all brought up together in the same loving home by the same loving parents and given every oppertunity in life. One of us, we all agree, we wouldn't p**s on if he were on fire. Chris.

I think Christmas may not be all about kids, but it is a very special time for them, - I agree with you Simon spoil them at Christmas, praise them and love them through out their childhood, and it should give returns to benfit all. Happy Christmas to all.

Sorry. Parents should make their kids feel loved everyday, and it's got nothing to do with material possesions. Material and practical gestures hold no emotional support / encouragement. My parents made the mistake of 'forgetting' to make me feel special and loved. Christmas is a time or excuse for everyone to get together and commemorate family
And i don't know, this is a very deep topic for an AV forum. Reading the comment - they are just kids - makes me furious.

Re: Christmas - Its all about the kids.
Tend to agree. My daughter is loved and hugged every day. Christmas is a good excuse to buy her some presents and to spend time together as a family but every day is important. Wish Father Christmas had not bought so much bath stuff! She opens her stocking on our bed and the smell will linger! We don't open presents till later this afternoon - Eleanor and Jo go to church - Jo is in the choir and Eleanor is serving - then we have lunch and then presents! I am afraid we are terrible as each year we feel embarrassed by the excessive number of presents and each year it is just as bad! This year at least three presents are charity adoptions which remind us a little that there are millions of people less fortunate. I count myself truly lucky to have such a wonderful family, great job and generally super life. May all of you have a great day but don't forget just how lucky in relative terms we all are.

Re: Christmas - Its all about the kids.
Thanks for that Chris! My wife has fairly serious medical problems, earlier in the year the a*sehole lifted her credit card having found the pin no ,then helping himself to over £1000 thro' atm's and followed by having the gaul to tell us he could live off 8 - 9 days work per month(he works in the film industry in London when work is about) - he lived with us made no contribution to the family budget etc - thus confirming the above status - hey ho life goes on Bon appetite a tous tony

Completely agree with you Dave, as I say, kids should be loved everyday throughout childhood - and indeed for the rest of there lives. Yes maybe this forum is not the place for this topic.

Re: Christmas - Its all about the kids.
Kids are like sponges, they are very very sensitive and 'children see, children do'. The way they are brought up and the way they are treated as kids can determine the person they become, the way they treat others - especially their own children, and their own mental health as adults. I think it's really lovely to spoil kids on xmas (especially seeing their faces when they open the presents), but only if they have been good.

Re: Christmas - Its all about the kids.
Nice to see so many different comments. This post was intended to be thought provoking and its refreshing to see that the majority of replies are in the same camp as myself with regards to this issue. There is absolutly no need for apologies from anyone that posted; certainly there have been no morbid moments and this is definitly the place for such a topic. After all, Christmas is a worldwide celebration; significant for many people in many cultures with many beliefs and interpretations of it and I am sure, discussed at this time of year in a multitude of forums both on and offline. My view is that of one from someone born and brought up in the UK with a Greek mother and an English father and to me, there is nothing more special in life than our children. Glad to of provoked such a relevent and it appears much needed short post. All the best, for every day and every Christmas to come, Simon. To those who have commented, "...it's good to be back."

That's a beautiful thing to say (to me, there is nothing more special in life than our children) Nice to see you're back and it's nice to be provoked!
