Some B&O knockers on Lotus forum

Some seem to think B&O is second rate gear dressed up to fleece the stupid rich. Anyone going to put them straight with some technical info'?

    http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=196867

    Quote;

"Okay, this is getting way off-topic now, but yes. *I am* missing the point.

I do not disagree that consumers often buy because they are drawn to an expensive product.

In fact, I would go further and say a lot of consumers are the "cream" of the economy: very rich, but sadly, also very thick.

I have nothing against spending more on an expensive product. I just think it's silly doing so, when there *are* better looking *and* better functioning products out there.

Of course, as to what constitutes a better looking product is entirely subjective. However, what constitutes a better functioning product is indisputable. In the case of hifi, it's the one that comes closest to reproducing the original sound, as it was performed by the artist and mastered in the studio by the recording engineers.

If this is the reference point for quality, it's indisputable *fact* that there are loads of products that are better than B&O for the same price.

The main subjective element is indeed aesthetics, and as I said earlier, imo there are products that look better and sell for the same money.

Completely agree with you in that ultimately, there will always be cream, and companies *will and can* make money by exploiting the cream. I have nothing against this. As to whether the cream wish to be exploited (in most cases unknowingly), that's their choice and right."

You have to be a member to view the post, so i'm not interested.  15 years in the motor trade taught me LOTUS stands for 'Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious' and i've not changed my mind yet..

Edit - thank you for now adding the quote.  It's and old and well-worn statement i personally cannot be bothered to argue with any more. Rich people are not stupid as a rule.. How on earth do you think they became rich - by being slack-jawed know nothings?  If so, a large chunk of the UK population would be incredibly wealthy..  driving Lotus Esprit's..

Sadly  the lotus forum is not the only place with B and O "knockers,"  there are plenty of "knockers" present on this forum also.

Can't there just be a code word for that entire argument? LIke if I say Pork Chops it means "you can get better quality for less money!" And when I say Ghostbusters, it means "I dare you to produce an example of a speaker and amplifier combination that rivals a BeoLab for the same money or less!" It would take up so much less time. See:

    Pork Chops!!!

    Pork Chops!? WTF!? Ghostbusters!

Are you kidding me? Ghostbusters? Totally Pork Chops. No question!

You're sadly mistaken. Only a fool would argue Pork Chops. Ghostbusters. That's final.

    Stereophile says Pork Chops!

    But Audiophile says Ghostbusters!

how about Pasta="I have bought huge amounts of B and O and thus I know first hand how outdated and poor performing it is"

Plastic= "my Kuro does everything better than any other TV the world has yet seen or will see until the new Kuro is released that will even  connect itself, program the remote for all peripherals, and wash the windows "

Filet Mignon="I researched the products, viewed the products, listened to them, and I am very pleased with my B and O, quality never goes out of style"

    thus

    Filet Mignon

are you kidding, Plastic....and furthermore Pasta, don't you realize Porkchops

    Ghostbusters

Didn't you read and understand what I said?! Plastic!! Pasta!! Plastic!!

Let them knock B&O... I would not take advise on anything related to comsumption from people buying British build cars...Stick out tongue

Let's face it, we cannot convert all the people of the world into buying B&O. And we should not, we would loose all our exclusivety.

A good and very true point Christian!

Not at all worried about anyone who decides to criticize B&O, just feel sorry for them.

I feel a bit sorry for them also. I don't feel sorry for them because they do not like B and O, everybody has different tastes. I feel sorry for them that they have nothing better to do with their time, nothing more enjoyable for themselves to do, than sit around and criticize B and O.
