    Beolab 5 + 3 - What Amp ?

I am setting up Beo 5`s for the front and 2 No. Beo 3`s for the rear. I have got to find a centre front and rear speaker to go with the B & O speakers. I cannot stretch to the TV at the moment so i have got to find a Amp that will not let the speakers down, budget 2k. I will mainly be using the 5`s with a 9000 for music and all speakers for cinema surround. Any help would be appreciated ?

What currency, what is your location. Do you know what TV you are planning to take?

To be honest I would not waste 2K in any major currency for a temporary workaround. I think I would consider buying a 2nd life BV with that money or maybe a Beosystem if you are planning on using a BV4.

Currency £ : Southampton : The TV`s the tricky bit as it will sit over a glass fronted fire which has a cool wall ( void in wall to convect heat ). The gas fire glass front is being fitted Jan then i will build the dry lined wall. 80 % of the heat is convected up. My worry is spending big ££ on a 65 inch B & O TV, then if a fault arises the first comment is should not be over a fire, end of warr. Even though the wall is fine, already seen it in the showroom working. So to be safe i will spec a cheaper plasma min 60 inch + at present can`t stretch to the 65 B & O maybe later. Basically back to what amp to drive the system !

If I understand you correctly, you are searching for amplifier for BL 5 and BL 3 ?

But you dont need amplifier for these speakers !

All curent B&O speakers are active.

    Sorry if I misunderstood you.

when your Black Label begin to taste like juice just take shot or two of Absinthe and after that quench with some vodka, if you still feel juice like take beer with grappa !

I Think Bluemist wants an amp which will do the decoding, to which he can connect the BeoLab 5s and 3s from the un-powered outputs!

I've always considered Rotel to be among the best when it comes to producing good quality surround sound amps which won't break the bank. I own an older RSX-1055 myself, which is practically faultless! Performs very well and does up to 7.1 decoding. Built like a tank, maybe looks like a tank too but it's not as ugly as most receivers! The remote control is rubbish though.

Originally i was looking for a Processor to run it all.  I did not know about the Beosystem 3, so i have just sorted my problem out. Just got to find one for reasonable money !

There are some restrictions what third party plasmas you can run with the BS 3. I dont know what the latest is, that probably gets more attention under a new thread. There are quite a few peeps around here that do that.

Even if you have to stretch a little, a BS would get you much further then dropping 2000 on a short term workaround.

Pictures are still there. Also, if you search here for fireplace you may find some additional info.

FWIW, mounting a TV over a fireplace is just about the worst thing you can do. Firstly, the heat can reduce the lifetime of plasma displays, and secondly, it's just a pain to watch - literally! You will find yourself developing neck pains...

The fire i am fitting is a studio 3 inset, this will only be 300mm of the floor. I am building a complete false wall to take it all and 80% of the 7.2 kw heat will travel up through the cool wall. Which is basically a 100mm channel the width of the fire 1300mm and exits 400mm below the ceiling, i have seen the set up and was suprised how cool the surface of the wall was. The plasma will still be at a low viewing level. Thanks for the ebay link, that was freaky i have ordered the same white corner suite ! I am going to check out the Bs 3 today to check that i can connect third party plasma and get full HD with their connections, i can only see dvi out at the moment.

The BeoSystem 3 is definitely the decoder to go with. It'll give you the integration of a B&O system, and most of the performance (the BeoVision 4 would be the missing link).
