Sky HD & remote control problems

    Morning,

Has anyone else experienced this? Unless I keep the Sky HD running at all times, when I switch on my BV7, the Sky HD box doesn't respond to any remote commands. I have to leave the TV/box running for around 30 minutes before it starts responding to the remote. This isn't a remote control issue, as the analogue TV responds to commands and so does the DVD player. It seems to be a problem with the Sky HD box. Any ideas?

Re: Sky HD & remote control problems

There are issues with the power saving facility SKY use, whereby your box turns itself off overnight.  Also, the settings on the Bvis 7 for "follow TV", "Never", "after 30 minutes" etc can conflict with timer recordings on the hard drive and also with the scart control voltage ( if you still have scart connected - you could be using phono's )

In effect, its possible to end up with your TV and box mixed up,and the on command, which the TV sends turns the box off - nmeaning you dont see anything.  pressing menu 1 or menu go go ( depending on exactly why your boix and TV are out of sync ) usually gets the box back on in a few seconds.

Other possibility is a misplaced IR emitter - if its not quite in the right place you can get interittant issues - sometimes light dependant.  Or maybe even a low output diode in the emitter.

But your description suggests the IR is in fact in place and OK,but there is a clash a initially described.

     Hope this helps.

Do you have a scart cable connected as well as the hdmi? It needs the scart for some of the control functions including on/off.

    Cheers

No, I'm 90% sure there's no scart cable connected (as well as the DVI). However, the problem only really occurred recently and never happened with my old Sky box - it's only since the upgrade to the HD box and the subsequent HD box software upgrade.

I might take a look to see if the IR is located in an area that now might affect the signal to the box, which would explain why the TV accepts remote commands for the analogue TV and DVD player.

Sky HD for sure needs the scart cable, without the scart everying works except on/off. On my sky hd box the IR is stuck at the 3 o'clock poistion over the central led thing. The stb controler is set to Pace Sky + (although I have a BS3 so not sure if the stb list is the same or not on your TV).

    Cheers
