HDTV on non HDTV sets (Avant, MX etc)

Can somebody explain to me if I have a non HDTV set like the Avant (without HDMI input) can I somehow watch a HDTV content (of course not in HDTV quality) on this set? A HDTV signal comes from a set top box (this is how the provider is distributing a signal).

I am asking this question because in the future there will be no other option as I have described abowe.

I'm sure those with more knowledge than me on the subject of HD (I don't have it) but my first reaction was that as connection from HD receiver to TV requires HDMI to convey the signal then an Avant or any other without such a capability, couldn't achieve it.

Connect your HD receiver via scart to youzr Avant. PQ will be SD for sure. The HD receiver will scale HD down to SD.

Perhaps there is another solution that HDTV signal could somehow be converted into analogue and then watched on Avant. Does somebody know if such a converter exsists?

    hi

i may be completely off track here but if the connection to the tv is by scart then it would be possible to use an rf converter ie scart in / rf out to rf input on tv usually operat on channel 22 but some are adjustable

do an ebay search usually about £15 - £30 - i used on for dvd to bv 7700 (tv had no scart socket)

as previously may be completely off track with the above if thats the case apologies

    tony

I always try to operate using/following the KISS principle --  Keep it simple stupid!

    A have a Topfield 7710 HD PVR.

This topfield sends simultaniously HDMI and composite video.

If the scart is used (you have to set a switch at the back), the HDMI, won't work.

I think the best quality will be RGB/HV  (or component) to the middle of the back of the avant. You'll need to select a preference for the audio input.  You'll need to turn off and unplug the Avant after making the connections.  Then, be sure that the new *source* is outputting before turning on the Avant again (This input will *see* the signal only this way).  Make other menu adjustments for the selected input, and things should be as good as they will get.

Other Beoworlders, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm with you that RGB is the best quality for the avant.

Component doesn't work on my avant though. Maybe it differs from type to type.

    I have a 8450 type, that's the 32" RF DVD version.
