Beosound 4 impressions and other options
Hi
I have had my beosound 4 for six months now buying it after selling my bs9000. Trouble is that after a fair trial I am not really getting on with my bs4 for the following reasons:
- first off imo the bits you interact with don't feel to the same quality as my other b&o equipment including the fact you can see the wires under the wall bracket and the wall bracket does not hold the unit with absolute stability - the sd card option is a bit of a waste of time if you have an ipod or you computer directly connected - and the big one - the magic and soul of this product has not delighted me in anywhere near the same way as my previous bs's (first 3000 then 9000)
I was wondering whether I have been a bit hard/missed the point or whether I should be rid of it and return to the 9000 - all views most welcome - by the way it will be connected going forward to my beosystem 3 and be driving a pair of bl9's (which I am saving up for).

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
I have not got a BS4 but they seemed to be a competitor for the 3000, not the 9000. In comparison to the 3000, the plastics used seemed better. But I would far rather have the 9000, except for the display with N.Music.

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
I would have never channged the BS9000 into a BS4. I can see if you have it many years that you might like something else but BS4 never had the magic for me that BS3000, BS9000 and BC2 have.

Let me add, I would go for BC2 to replace BS9000.

Why are you going to do that?

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
I love my BS4. With the glass closed its very understated and classy. Its design is very unique & interesting to look at, whereas the 9000 is so obviously a CD player on first sight. Also when the glass opens to reveal itself, it never fails to impress. The SD card function works very well IMHO and displays track info which a CD doesnt. I wouldnt encourage MP3 music anyway, stick to quality CD's, the SD card is just an added bonus. My BS4 is sat on a B&O cabinet with a smoke black glass top (I had cut for only £5 with safety edges and a hole in the middle for the cables to be hidden).
As for the 9000 I love it too but the cheap copies in high street stores takes the wow off it a bit.

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
I somehow can understand you being disappointed about the BS4, though it sure is not a bad item. You switched from the very top end of the B&O range to the bottom. BS4 should be considered as an entry model, and as said before, me too, I find it strange that you go from BS9000 to BS4. The wrong way around IMO.

>>Why are you going to do that?<<
The only reason why I would do that is IF I had a BS9000 for many years (I got mine recently). I like to change every now and then so if I would get antsy and wanted something else right now I would do the BC2. It is more "interesting" to use and to look at as the BS4 in my opinion. That said, I do not care for the SD card feature at all. I have an Ipod, Itunes Airport Express.
Actually I do want a BC2 quite bad, the BS9000 I took only because it was too good of a bargain on Ebay to pass on. There is just the voice of reasoning versus the voice that tells me to buy more stuff.

Sounds good - any chance of a photo britops? Oh - and never ever post that gruesome BS9000 lookalikey photo again or I'll send my dogs round - OK? Chris.

Ok. I think I understand to you. But we think in a different way, and the diference is the valoration we do about the BS9000. From my point of view, nowadays is the best "music player" under production in B&O. You love it or not, without doubt. With the BC2 is not the same. People feel cooler about it. "Is nice but..." always there is a "but", or "It´s good, I have DVD and CD at the same time", but you don´t realy choose beacause you think is the best, only because is functional. I like BC2 too much, I think is fantastic, but I would never change a BS9000 for a BC2. The BS9000 is great, It´s an real icon. It´s only my point of view. I´m a BS9000 lover, that is . And of course, there isn´t any comparation between BS9000 and BS4. Just different leagues.

If you ever can get a BS9000, just buy it. Sell the BS4 no questions asked.

I agree with that statement. I wish you will be able to get another BS9000, as IMHO it is a real pièce of Art. Guy

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
Hi
Just a bit more background to my thinking - I had my bs9000 for 7 years and wanted something new and thought that there was no point having two cd players so got rid of it for the new toy. Also now very happy with my playstation 3 connected to beosystem 3 as a dvd player.
I have made up my mind that my bs 4 does not have the necessary magic/soul for me (very subjective I know but my b&o items need to delight me every day) and now left with a decision - replace with a new bs9000 - beautiful but something I with which I am very familiar and essentially older technology or go for BC2 - newer and very interesting but in the same league as the bs9000 for magic factor?

I am not sure about the BC2. I have one and although good, the touch sensitive aluminium is just not quite good enough. Mine freezes up once in a while as well. I miss my 7000 system!

>> I have one and although good, the touch sensitive aluminium is just not quite good enough<<
That is true. What bothers me with the BS9000 that it is always fiddly to put the CDs in. Usually I can not find the covers .... I am bit messy in this area. So my thought is to get a BC2 on top, leave my current favourite CDs in the BS9000 and if I want something else use the BC2. I would switch the remote off for BS9000 and then just connnect it via AUX.
I do have an Imac in my living room as well (Beo 4 controlled) and it has most of my CDs but somehow I am not using it much besides for movies.
The only thing that holds me back right now is that my dream system, a beoliving setup with BC6 26 or BV7 32 and projector is not available in the US. Small TV and projector is my ulitimate setup. So I am saving up to see what is next for us, hoping for a a BV7 32 after they will get us the 40" which is too massive for my tiny NYC 1 bedroom apartment.

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
These are very informative views and think I am now at the point when a return to the bs9000 is the way to go - one of the other reasons I got rid of it is I thought that my beo4 controlled imac with most of my music on it would be what I would use most - I was wrong - I still listen to cds a fair bit because it takes too long to select what I want from the mac. I really miss the sheer ease of having 6 cds to draw on anywhere in the house.

Re: Beosound 4 impressions and other options
Hi I had a loan BS4 from my dealer this weekend, looking to replace my BS3000. To be honest I wasn't at all impressed, the build quality didn't seem as good as the BS3000 and I found placing a CD in it dificult. My main reason for test driving it was the multiline display with N.Music and I found that the unit had to be at the right height to view it clearly, which was fairly low down. The buttons look and feel like they are out of a BMW (not that thats a bad thing) and the polished base looked a little cheap to me. However, maybe I'm just getting old and don't like change. (and probably the most confrontational post I have ever written) Greg
