    BeoSystem 3 and SW 5.0

I just had my BS3 (US) upgraded from 4.17 to 5.0 and thought it's time for a thread.  It's been working fine so far.  One new thing that shows up on some sound setup menus is "Adaptive Sound Technology", or AST.  Anyone have the story on that?  It's marked as disabled.  I'm guessing that's the feature that's responsible for the major revision bump.  Any other observations?

I was told by a couple of dealers several months ago  that a new update would be available that would be similiar to the system on the Beolab 5s. I recently posted a question on this forum about it and somebody responded they thought it would be a hardware update.

Perhaps it is a both a hardware and software issue which is why it says "disabled"?

If this is it (see link), maybe it needs a microphone connected to it.

    http://www.asoundtech.com/Technologies/adaptive-sound-technology.html

It is in effect in effect similar to the automatic calibration of the BL5.

... Or maybe you need to tell the BS5 that you have BL5 to have this feature enabled.

Re: BeoSystem 3 and SW 5.0

That sounds interesting : the BS3 will finaly become up to date after some month of outdated status... (every kikinoko cinema processor has a room calibration microphone today).

Does anybody knows when an hardware update will happen : I'm waiting for HD TV tuner, DTS Master Audio decoding (which is now available on almost all new blu ray movies : it is massively adopted, more than the DTS on DVDs, great!), and if possible more digital connections and no SCART one...

According to my dealer it should only be SW based, so no need for new HW, he could't give me anymore details though.

Re: BeoSystem 3 and SW 5.0

Historically, when something is greyed out in a B&O menu you will have to add hardware to make it work. But this could be as simple as adding a temporary device to your BS3 for calibration purposes...

You are right about that, i asked my dealer if they were in the process of creating a BS4, and that is what this AST was for, and he said that he would be very surpriced to hear about a BS4, when they are just getting the BS3 up to date and working :) He mentoned that perhaps this AST was a simpler version, where you would just give the dimensions of the room to the SW, instead of a MIC calibrating. Although it should be an easy thing to do, just plug a MIC in one of the HDMI ports, or scart for calibration purposes. Doesnt need to be a seperate HW issue. All is available right now.

Just thought of something, i bet they will allow both ways. For instance me, it would be a pain for me to attach a MIC to the BS3 and place it in my living room. All my wires are running in hidden tubes in the wall, and the BS3 is placed in a room just above the livingroom, so for me i would hate to attach a tmp MIC :)

I have emailed my dealer, a  contact I have at B and O North America, as well as Beocare with no response yet from any of the three. Seems like they do not want to talk about it, whatever it is.

They will not and can not talk about products not yet finalized. Expect official info regarding this next Fall (ie Fall of -09).

Try to send an email to both Audi in Germany and in the USA and ask for details regarding their CLS-clone known as the Audi A7... it will be launched at the same time next year.

Re: BeoSystem 3 and SW 5.0

The menu item 'ATS' is for future use, AND requires a new hardware version of the DSM module.
ATS is a new way of making Stereo and Surround sound. More information will be available when
the new DSM module is launched.

All sounds interesting.  Couple of quick queries:  When is this likely to be released?  And any ideas what this new Sound Module do over and above what the old one did?

Release 'imminent' then.  You would have thought it should follow very shortly after the software.

My Beosystem 3 was upgraded this week and the background of all my menu's are black now instead of grey?  Also the setup menu is not centered as before, it's on the left side.  Is this normal now?  I have not seen any comments regarding this in this thread.  I do have the greyed out AST in my sound menu.

Yes, this is the new "look" since 5.0. It is in the change description posted a few days ago in this thread.
