Advise needed on opening up a RL6000

    Hi there

As I am planning on exchanging the capacitors of the cross-over of my white RL6000, I need some advise on how to open them. I understand that the two ribbons have to be loosened at the back, but then what is next? An awful lot of screws?

If you guys are interested, I’ll be glad to make a small photo-series of the process, perhaps others can benefit from a visual guide.

    Thanks

    Best regards

    Chr.

    Lots and lots of screws.

When you lay the speakers face down to work on them, make sure you lay them on a surface that will not damage the covers, and do not allow them to slide whilst you are working, use something like a couple of towels on the floor before laying them down.

I expect that if you are capable of handling a soldering iron etc, you will not have any problem dealing with the terminals that are in the back plate, the wires lead on to the crossover which is in the front half of the speakers and you must slip the connectors off to seperate them, putting them back means you have to do it mostly by touch.

Yep - lots of screws. There are indeed screws under the "V" shaped blocks which hold the straps in place. There is also a screw in the square hole in the back where the speaker wire spring terminals are which can be easily missed..

    Hello,

I did the upgrade with my RL60/2 and my Beovox CX 100.  I used the Intertechnik capacitors from Conrad.
It was well worth the effort.  Much smoother and detailed sound.

Keep us posted on your experiences.

    Kind regards

    - And even when all screws are out it may still be hard to pull the back and front from eachother due to the almost airtight sealing.

    Hi,

Here's a link to a site giving a full photo breakdown of the dismantling and rebuilding of a pair of Red Line speakers:-

    Hope this helps!

    Great link.

Seriously considering turning mine into white units now.
