    MX 4200 with MCL system

I recently replaced my MX 4000 with a MX 4200. I would need to connect this new MX4200 to my existing stereo MCL system.

Main Room:   Beomaster 6500 (connected to my computers itunes), 2 sets/pairs of passive speakers that I would like to be able to run all together, or alternately as separate pairs. The beomaster is placed in a closed cupboard with 2 MCL-2A daisy chained with each set of speakers connected to a MCL-2A with its own separate remote eye. This works well as the main room is huge and the eyes are not disturbing each other.

Room 1 (old Set up): MCL-2AV (daisy chained from the last MCL-2A in main room) from this a MX 4000 was connected. 1 pair of passive speakers was connected directly into the MX 4000. With this set up I was able to control the volume independently to the main room.

Room 1 (NEW Set up): MCL-2AV (daisy chained from the last MCL-2A in main room) from this a ML/MCL Convertor is to be connected with data link cable and the new MX 4200 connected to this convertor thru ML cable. The pair of passive speakers would then be connected into the ML/MCL convertor. I have attached a diagram showing my intended set up in this room.

Questions: Is this the best way of connecting the MX 4200 and the set of passive speakers to this "room 1" if I want independent volume control of the linked audio from my BM 6500? Would a Link Convertor do the same job (guess not as there isn't a way to connect the speakers then)?

    thanks,

Re: MX 4200 with MCL system

I am afraid this will not work.

You need two convertes: The ML/MCL as you suggest, and the BeoLink Converter.

The BeoLink Converter takes MasterLink from the MX4200 and gives you DataLink out to the MCL-2AV.
The ML/MCL takes PowerLink the the hidden PowerLink sockets on the MCL-2AV and gives you speaker out, to the passives.

Instead of the ML/MCL you can use a MCL-2P.

Re: MX 4200 with MCL system

Great, thanks. As I understand it from your advise:

I connect the MX 4200 to a Beolink Convertor with a ML cable and then connect this convertor to the MCL-AV with the DataLink cable. Would I now be able to play my audio from the main room thru the TV's speakers?

If I get the additional ML/MCL Convertor, or MCL-P, and connect this with the "hidden" powerlink sockets on the MCL-AV I would also be able to have the additional passive speakers running, with, or without the TVs speakers?

Have I understood you correctly how these two different convertors work?

Re: MX 4200 with MCL system

Giving it a second though, I would connect the ML/MCL to the PowerLink sockets on the MX...

The BeoLink Converter simply converts ML to MCL/DataLink. Sound and data will be passed through both ways. Using it with the MX would give you the same result as if the MX4200 actually did have a DataLink socket.

The ML/MCL is an amplifier. It has to uses. One is as a passive amplifier when it i only connected to PowerLink and passive speakers, and i this case you can use a MCL-2P instead. The other option is to use it between a MCL network and a audio/video master that has MasterLink. If MasterLink is connected to the ML/MCL you can connect you MCL cable to the box, using the 3 pin DIN plugs, that is currently connected to you Beomaster. I use mine this way: BS9000 connected to a ML/MCL with MasterLink, and 4 MCL-2A daisy chained to the ML/MCL.

The Converter is a small box, whereas the ML/MCL is large and very heavy with a large grill for cooling.

Re: MX 4200 with MCL system

Thanks, would I still connect the MCL-2AV DataLink to the BeoLink Convertor as I mentioned above? (MX4200 to BeoLink Convertor via ML cable - BeoLink Convertor to MCL-2AV via DataLink cable)

Then, instead of connecting the ML/MCL Convertor to the MCL-2AV, I would connect this directly to the MX via its PowerLink outlets?

What would be the difference of connecting the ML/MCL Cobnvertor directly to the MX 4200?
