Are there big differences in the Beosound/Beocenter family, in sound? Easy to choose between Beolab 8000, Beolab 6000 & Beolab 3

    Hi,

Today i went to a Bang & Olufsen dealer in Stockholm. Trying to define what will be the best speaker for me/us.

    It was easy...........

I listened to a hybrid sacd from Pink Floyd with the album The dark side of the moon & then to Ray Brown trio with the help from Beosound 4!

-The Beolab 8000 played with features such as dynamics, control, presence & showed no tendency to

faint bass reproduction. I was amazed, I know that the beolab 8000 stands for quality but the sound was way above my expectations. Im in love!

-The Beolab 6000 made me surprised, not detailed as the big brother but still a warm sound image.

The song became very present & they were capable of high volumes.

There was a big difference between floorstanding & wall mounted placement.

The beolab 6000 did really shine when they were placed along the wall.

-Beolab 3 did make me a little bit confused. They played with a lack of feeling. Consider the size of the Beolab 3

there were a lot of sound coming out from that little "body". The sound image was very wide but were was the bass?

The sound settings in Beosound 4 = Loudness off, bass/treble 0.

I know that the Beolab 8000 is the speaker for me/us, they played so clear and they do really give a good picture of all instruments!

They are beautiful & and I know that our ears will love them...........................................

If this is first and only one speakers in your home I will suggest you to go for BL8000, if you have any of B&O speakers go for BL6000 like a rear speaker.

Why 8000? Beautiful sound and true and iconic B&O design.

But let your wife to be final in decision Wink

    Congrats,

Glad you found your perfect Beo speaker.

When I move, probably within a year or two to a bigger house, I'm going to get a pair of BL 8000 as a second system.

They are the smartest looking Beo product in my opinion.

Still the most beautiful speakers ever made IMO, and they don't just flatter to deceive.

    Good choice.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

I like detail more than anything else and this is what the 3s give me. The 8000s are the most beautiful, but I have 3s. Not bothered about bass where they are though in a bigger room I can possibly understand.

The sound was like the design, beautiful.....

    Another question?

There are small differences in specifications between the Beosound/Beocenter models!
Is it possible to hear the difference?
I do not want to miss a single thing when we buy our Bang & Olufsen products.

    Hi

Congratualations. It seems that you picked the same system as I did a year ago. It seems to be typical swedishSmile.

Just to be certain, I placed Beolab 3 in the kitchen/dining room as wellCool.

I totally agree with you about the 8000, superb sound. It is however possible to get Beolab 3 to sound as good or at least nearly as good as 8000. Some in this forum think Beolab 3 is better than 8000. I suppose it would be possible too, but I have never heard a setup sounding that good.

6000 is a different story though. All setups I have heard have sounded really cheap. Typical like a 200€ speaker in a big store (El Giganten).

    Good luck

Personally, I would not be so harsh on them - if/when combined with a spare BL2. In that case one can be reasonably certain that this combination  doesn't sound THAT cheap - at least not in terms of $ :-)

I own Beolab 8000 that I love, a friend of mine has Beolab 6000, and in his setting/room they sound great! I was really surprised as they do not have such a great reputation.

    AGREED!

The poor little brother of the 8000 takes so many hits here! I have said before and I'll say it again... In the right room -there is nothing wrong with them. They are affordable, look great, and are wall mountable! Place them correctly and you have a stylish bargain.

    Hello

I hope no one is offended. That was not my intention. As I wrote, this is just a personal opinion when listening to different setups. However, it was possible to tweak or move around speakers when it come to Beolab 8000 or Beolab 3 to get an excellent result. That did not seem to be possible with 6000, but note that I did not try very much since the first impression was that this one was in a different class than 3 or 8000.

If people like Beolab 6000 and think they sound like the price tag, I accept that.

No No, Clakke you simply speak your mind and a discussion can get as fine as people are willing to do just that, really. Now, my 'main' (taken over by the rest of my family) speakers are BL5's but I guess I just wanted to say that the 6000's can still sound great under certain circumstances (as others also pointed out). I also have BL8000, but what I think is more remarkable than that, is that I actually don't feel compelled to get rid of either! :-)

I hear a lot about BL3's and frankly speaking I might have to find a place for them somewhere - like Peter did(?) :-)
