    Config Tool

I have just purchased anew Beo 5 and already I want to modify the dealer settings. My deler seems very unwilling to allow me to use the software myself, although I am very technically savvy.I honestly do not want to be going back and forward to the dealer to make small config changes. How do I get access to the software myself, do I have to go to B&O directly?

Reading German could be an assistance here I am lead to believe. I understand a knowledge of the stories of J.M.Barrie might assist you.(end cryptic clue mode!) Beoworld at this time can help with xml files - see the Beo5 forum - but the software is at present not directly on site...

How do you download the current settings in a Beo 5 into the configuration tool?

    Re: Config Tool

You can't "upload" from the Beo5..

The Beo5 Configuration Tool saves the configuration you created to an XML file in a directory and the name of the directory is the serial number of your Beo5. During the serialisation process a HEX file is created which will be downloaded into the Beo5's memory and used.

There is no facility to upload and convert back into an XML file.

You will need to get a copy of your XML configuration file from whoever created it or re-create it from scratch.

    Regards Keith....

Well, if you have downloaded the Config tool, and has the latest firmware in your Beo5, and has the XML fil from your dealer, then it is just trial and error :)

     Here is a small guide.

    1. The beoconfig tool saves your XML under the "Clients" directory and then in a directory which has your Beo5's serial number.

    2. When you have your XML from your dealer, then you can always go back to that configuration if you mess everything up.

What you do is this, make a copy of your XML from your dealer and save this somewhere safe(for backup), then insert start your Beo5 config software, and make sure that your Beo5's Serial number pop's up on the first screen of the config tool, then just press save, and you should now have a directory under clients that has the serial number as name.

Close the config tool, and copy your dealer XML to that newly created directory.

Start the config tool again, and insert your remote in the charger. Now you can change/add the dealer sw :)

You can always test and play with the config tool, without downloading to your beo5, and i recommend playing around with the tool before downloading to the remote.

But remember, if you press save, then the XML file will be replaced with whatever you have created when playing. If you get carried away and get's in over your head, then just close the tool, and replace the XMl with your backup, restart the tool, and you are back.

BTW, it is always a good idea to make a backup of your working XML, before making changes. For instance, if you at one point have moved all you buttons for settop boxes, and later on adds another product, then all buttons will be randomly positioned on the different screens :)

I have been saved lots of times by my backups :)
