Re: The Beo4 FAQ under construction

The FAQ challenge thread is where we put up suggestions for FAQ's we want.

Then we create a thread for that FAQ ie this one is for the Beo4 FAQ. When we've finished with this one it gets edited and condensed into a neat readable package and goes onto the main site.

    cheers,

    Kevin

Re: The Beo4 FAQ under construction

Question:- How can you tell the age of a Beo4

Answer:- Press GO and MENU at the same time and then LIST to 'scroll' through the information. It will show you, the version: EE: 6.0 SW: 5.0

Re: The Beo4 FAQ under construction

    Andy,

As others have stated, you find the software version by pressing "menu" and "go" at the same time, then press list repeatly

The latest version is EE = 6.1 and software is 5.00

If you cannot find "phono", then you have a more recent version of the BEO4. Phono was re-assigned

N-Radio means Network Radio and you would have to have a Beoport or BeoMedia to use this source. This source allows you to listen to hundreds of radio stations over the Internet. (not at the same time of course)

The light button is for use with LC1, LC2, Lutron lighting controllers as well as a few other third party products.

    Keith..

    Regards Keith....

My questions:Is it possible to replace the black metal body? Price? After years of usage it looks terrible. Or is there a possibility to refit it?Same problem with the BL5000 :-( Greets Christian

Good idea, Kevin, and excellent choice for the first FAQ!

    Nicholas:
How do I clean the thing?

    Nicholas

I clean mine every now and then with "those prepared little towels" (very bad english; no idea what you call them) SHMBO uses to clean her glasses. Works very well

I think you can get a replacement body for a reasonable price. I got one on eBay, just in case. This one is a metal case including 2 wires that you have to solder to the PCB when you exchange the body.

Re: The Beo4 FAQ under construction

    Keith my friend,
I already know the answers to all these questions. I thought the purpose of this thread was to find the kind of questions that are likely to be asked, and then make a list of FAQs.
These four questions were my contribution, I wasn't asking for an answer.Confused
I think Ed is busy answering questions unnessacarily needlessly too.
Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions though.

Re: The Beo4 FAQ under construction

    HI

I'd like to see a step by step guide how to dismantle the Beo4 for the purpouse of cleaning or replacing parts I.e contact foil or rubber buttons (?) or the metal body to mention some.

I once had the contact foil replace on my Beo4, and honestly it looked like a simple enough job to to if you are a little careful

Re: The Beo4 FAQ under construction

Good thread going here.I have already learned a couple of points just reading it.

I just cleaned my BEO 4 in Brasil last week, after a party. The remote really moved around, inside and out on the terrace. Not real dirty, but with the humidity and 1000 fingers palying with the remote, it was time.

I used a cloth, Q-Tips for keypads and edging, dipped in a weak window cleaning solution, and a final wipe with the cloth. As good as new.

In addition to the above questions ( designer, dates, etc. ) I would be curious to know the step-by-step manufacturing process beginning with the selection of metal, to final inspection. Codes seem to be infinite, but what are the limits ?  Most important given the discussion of the much anticipated arrival of the BEO 5, would be what is the future of the BEO 4 ?
