    BeoSound 9000 spinning mad

    Hi,

    I have a BeoSound 9000 and it's about 18 months old. In the last few months, I've experienced a few rare random incidences where when I play a CD, it would spin out of control, the player makes this screechy noise then the spinning would stop and then CD would fall out of the clamp. This only happens in disc 1 and it has happened to both burned and original CDs. The player is mounted horizontally. I’ve kept it in mint condition, it’s clean, no dust, etc. I’ve called the local B&O service guy as the player is still under warranty and he hasn’t encountered this problem before. He said it might be the laser not recognizing burn CDs and would replace the laser if that was the cause but this happened to both burn and original CDs. Other than that, he would not know how to fix it unless he can recreate the problem.

    Have any of you encountered this problem or know what is causing this? Thanks for your help! J

    Happens to mine as well sometimes. It's the CD spinning against the clamps that hold the CD when not in use.

    When you insert the CD push it a little extra towards the metallic plate (towards the display, and where the controls are)Opposite of the opening of the glass door. And make sure it stays a bit longer to this side that normal, try it again and it shouldn't connect with the holder. 

    Difficult since I don't know how you have the BS9000 installed. (Horizontal yes, on the wall, and what side down?)

    I would talk to your B&O dealer. This isn't something anyone on here could fix without actually seeing to the unit. Either way, if anybody other than a B&O dealer did have a stab at it, they'd void the warranty.

    Oh, I wasn't going to fix it myself, I just wanted to know if anyone had experienced the same problem so I can help the dealer along in getting the problem fixed or diagnosed faster. He said he can only fix the problem if he knows the cause. I don't want to send it in for weeks before they diagnose the problem. 

    I'm hoping it's only because I loaded the CDs improperly, per bayerische's instructions. I'm thinking this might be the problem as this is a very rare random occurence. The player is mounted horizontally on a wall bracket with the display on top. When the glass door opens, it opens up.

    So the display is on top of the CD's?

     

    If so, try and press the CD upward when you load it. And make sure it stays more toward the upward end of it's possible movement inside the clamp than say the middle or downward end.

     

    Is your BS9000 mounted like this:

    Yes, that's how the player is mounted. I'll take notice of the CD placement, hopefully that is what's causing it. Thank you!

    I have the same problem from time to time, but only with particular CDs, especially burnt CDs.

    Living room: BV7-40 mkIV + V8000, BL5, BL3, BM1 and BS9000. Bedroom: MX3000 and BL4500 on MCL2-AV. Around: PentaIII, CX100 and MCX35 on ML/MCL + MCL2-A, BeoPort and BL4 on ML, BS3300 + M75 as stand alone, BC6000 + BC600 and BT1100, LC1, LC2, Beo4, Beo5 and BL1000, BS2 and A8, EarSet2, Apron, Coffee mugs, Enamel Bagdes, Bath towel, Keyring, Books, Lots of miniature and the Bottle opener. Office: BC2300 + BL2500 and BS3. Summer house: BS Century.

    Addicted? Oh no.... ;)

    Hmm,

    Just a thought, but the screeching sound may be a separate problem.  As you may know, the 9000 CD transport needs to be aligned using the two fittings underneath with the red key supplied when you bought the system.  The usual symptoms of a mis-aligned transport mechanism are screeching and/or disc spinning problems (although usually going slow rather than too fast!)

    I have seen various 9000's which have suffered damage in transit or which have been dropped, where the factory alignment settings are no longer correct - hence the alignment screws need to be set individually by trial and error. Unless you are certain of the condition of your system (ie. purchased and set up from new by a B&O dealer), you may want to double check these settings!

    That sounds like a serious problem. I bought it from the local dealer but it wasn't in stock at the time so they ordered it for me. It was delivered to my house. The dealer then sent someone to set it up. I do recall seeing the alignment but i don't remember if it indicated if the unit was shocked from the transportation.

    I'll give it another couple of weeks and if it happens again, I'll just ask the dealer to figure it out. Thanks!
