Two or three speakers when watching ordinary TV

    Hi all.

I own a BV 40-7 with the BL 7-4 and BL 9 on the sides. When watching movies it is obvious for me to use all three speakers, but when listening to music i only use the BL 9's. I am curious what people with similar setups do when they (you) watch TV?

I get that the vocal audio from the 7-4 is superior, but isn't that mostly when the signal is made up to go through it (movies)? If I am on all three speakers during a TV broadcast, doesn't that pretty much mean that I am channeling a stereo signal into a mono speaker, as the BL 9's dont contribute significantly to TV shows at that setting? When switching a TV broadcast to two speaker mode the general audio image is somewhat lifted I think, but the vocal strenghts of the BL 7-4 are of course then lost.

How should I play the game?

    BV 7-55, BL 7-4, BL 9's, BL 4's, BL 3's, BC 2300, Beo5, Beo4

In our setup the BL7.1 is on when watching TV

The Beolab 4000 in each corner 1 speaker is on (+ BL2) when radio or similar audio is on.

When we watch DVD I have to set the speaker setup manually to 5 speakers.

Good point. I've played a few audio CDs via the same setup and they always sound way too 'bright' for me compared to my Beosound 4 + BL3. That offers a more rounded audio experience, which I prefer. I'm now wondering if it's the addition of the 7.4 which makes the audio sound so bright. I might try this later.

    Hi I have pretty much the same setup BV7 + BL-4 + BL8000's + BL6000's + BL2

For TV i use speaker 3 which gives me front and BL4 + BL2

and for music i use Speaker 2 giving me the 8000's + BL2

if im having a party i use speaker 4 for music,

i think music sounds terrible on speaker 3,

Hey Taktak, you need some rears then watch movies in 5.1 and listen to music and watch TV in speaker 4.

    Poor me, never win owt!

Why dont you simply let the BV7 make all the decisions?
Set the audio sound option to 2.0 - which will play via the BL9's
Set the video sound option to 3.0 - which will play via the BL7.4 and BL9's.
Then as the signal changes depending on the quality (news/mono, movie/stereo, DVD/Dolby3), the BV7 will automatically adjust.
Nothing will be lost and nothing will "cut-in" inappropriately.

Re: Two or three speakers when watching ordinary TV

Music is (98% of the time) recorded in stereo, and hence should be played in stereo. Speaker 3 is effectively trying to force the BeoVision to extract information out of the recording which simply isn't there - confused, often 'brittle' sound.
