Hi

I have a Beogram 3300 and have intermittent problems with the sound. I have checked all wires and speakers - everything seems ok. The turntable, CD and radio all seem to work but invariably there is no sound or occassionally very quiet, distorted sound.

I cant find my original manual and am at a loss what else to try out. I cant find the original manual either.

Any basic tips or pointers??

It could be your cartridge which is faulty - most likely. What model is it  - it should have MMC written on the top followed by a number. It could also be (if you're lucky) a simple case of loose connections in the output DIN plug of your beogram, but doubtful to be honest.

My money would be on the cartridge, as Chris has suggested, or the mute switch.

Since replacement cartridges are so expensive, your cheapest option is to beg borrow or steal one as a temporary replacement. There is no real other way of testing yours and I would do this before you get diverted at a number of tangents once you start to delve inside the deck. Been there and done that!!!
