Removal of disintegrated rubber belts from Beocord 8000 & Beocenter 7700

    Hi

I am trying to restore the tape units in a BC7700 and a BC8000.  Both units appear to be identical and have failed for the same reason i.e the drive delts have broken.  However, the belts have not just physically broken, they have somehow changed into sticky lumps of rubber that have stuck to the capstan, motor pully and anything else they touch. I have tried to remove the sticky mess with methelated spirits and washbenzine (Dutch paint thinners) but neither of these solvents has much effect.

Has anyone seen this sticky mess in a tape mechanism and what causes it?

Any tips on solvents that remove it?

Does anybody know what the rubber belt sizes are or how much smaller than the measured distance around the wheels a replacement needs to be to work?

    Regards

    Richard

Re: Removal of disintegrated rubber belts from Beocord 8000 & Beocenter 7700

It's very common to see this happen, especially if the Beocord/Beocenter stood unused for a longer period. The gooey mess will clean off with isopropanol (tapehead cleaner / carburettor alcohol), cotton buds and patience. Hard to get off the fingers though so use gloves.

I have new belts in stock, also available on Ebay.de

Hi, I am looking to replace the belts driving the bay doors for cassette and cd on a beocenter 9000. Would you have that? I am willing to buy the complete belt kit while I am at it.

    Thanks

    Dillen:

Do you have replacement rubber for the wheels inside the 9000 decks?

I think mine are wearing out. The belts are in good condition but rewind is a bit weak as is play.

    It's usually the belt(s) slipping.
Even if it looks fine and sits nicely, it can have lost friction.
