    Re: New BEO-remote

I've just paid a 100 euro deposit to order one....

French dealers will be trained to sell the beo5 on the 20th of September, and it would be available in late December or early January 2008, at the price of 550 euro...

My dealer could not  tell me if it will be able to control non-B&o stuff, such as decoders..... only 80% sure....

    Cheers, Laurent.

    Avant 28 DVD, BC2, 2300, BL2500, 8000, to name a few...

The Beo5 WILL be able to control non Beo devices, but it has to be setup by the dealer.

This is indicated in the manual.

This feature is however targeted to non hifi devices, such as curtains, lights, etc... For AV devices, the PUC is the way to go.

     Hello Laurent,

Are you sure about the price of 550 euros for the french market ?

That's close to 70 euros more than what we can get in Holland (Ed stated 480 euros).

    Thanks for your reply.

    What is the PUC?

    PUC = Peripheral Unit Controller,

to control non-B&O-devices, such as STB's for example,

but also home-automation products (lights, blinds, curtains, and so on)

    Re: New BEO-remote

I spoke to my local dealer today,  he said he would be supprised if the UK price was as low as £320.  I couldn't pre-order one as he didn't know the price nor the release date.

My hope is that use of BeoMedia in link rooms bocomes a whole lot easier - download of playlists / albums / artists would be good,  just to be able to scroll by letter would be an improvement.  No more coloured buttons to switch between genre / album /artist?  he list goes on!

We are expecting $650 here in the states. It is really nice. The feel, touch, weight. Such an amazing piece of equipment.

    Re: New BEO-remote

will B&O cut beo4 after beo 5? So we have to decide which one we should buy...

so do you mind sharing the areas of imperfection of beo4 remote control?

    thanks a lot.

In scanning the manual, it looks like it will control non-B&O devices only via the PUC - so no big change from the Beo4 then? The Beo5 then doesn't send out a 38Khz IR, but just the usual 455Khz which is translated buy the PUC into the non-B&O commands and sent via the wand. The 'Selected non B&O products' line probably means units that could be controlled directly by the Beo5 (or Beo4) anyway.

That at least is what it seems to me.

    Re: New BEO-remote

    Hi Beo.
It's a bit difficult to find negatives about Beo4. A sturdy remote that will always be in demand like Beolink 1000 before it.
Only negatives I can think are
    1... The "hidden" buttons.
2... The lack of a "phono" button on later models.
    3... Not two way.
4... Awkward method of tuning radio stations on older equipment (BM7000 etc)
