Hi.

I got a Beogram CD 5500 and a Beocord 5500 for repair. The CD was told to be completely dead, but it was just a case of cracked soldering on power supply diodes. Resoldered and now works as new. (But, Martin, can you supply a new belt for the drawer mech, it's having troubles with the stage where the clamper goes down - the belt is slipping).

 

Now I have the Beocord next to me. It's working otherwise Ok, but it produces sound only in one channel (left). What should I look for, more bad solder points or something else?

I checked the DIN plug - nothing wrong in there.

I took the deck apart. If I touch the soldering point with a screwdriver where the wires from the head connect to the thicker wire that goes to the big main board, there is a hum and I can get it to both channels. So I believe the amplifier section is working as should. Could the head itself be bad? 

 

Hmm. I tried to measure it today. I found out that the other part of the head shows resistanse of around 240 ohms (I have no idea if this is Ok or not - at least this was the only reading I got) and the other shows infinite. So as far as I know the head would be open-circuit (same story with a Beocord 1500 deluxe open-reel some years ago). How easy/impossible it would be to get a replacement head?
