    my new Beo5: some questions

    Hello,

I recently got my Beo5, unfortunately without the Configuration Software. My dealer asked me to test the functionality and to write down a list of configuration changes I would appreciate.

Therefore I have got some questions about the possibilities of configuration. Many thanks in advance for any help.

    • Maximum Character Count for zone naming / special chars:
What is the maximum character count for zone names?
Are German special characters also supported like ü or ä?

    • Currently, 4 zones are defined (Kitchen, Living, Office, Beoport). The zone "Beoport" is a hidden icon because no IR eye is connected and the Beoport is only used for delivering music to other components.
Living and Office have got images (Avant for Living, Beosound 3000 for Office), centered on the screen. The kitchen is displayed as a text information in the left lower corner of the display.

I wonder if a nice image arrangement can be found if a third icon (Beolab 3500 as image for the kitchen zone) is added. Can anyone suggest an arrangement for this three images on the screen, perhaps?

As an alternative I am thinking of combining the Beosound 3000 and the Avant to one Zone "Audio-Video" and making an image icon containing the Avant and the Beosound. I would like to have two images displayed in the zone selector then: Audio-Video-Image (Avant and Beosound) and Kitchen-Image (Beolab 3500). As I am watching TV via link with a Sony in the office room using the Beosund 3000 for receiving IR signals and putting out the sound the only deficits might be found in the Scene menu where I will find configuration options that are not available in both rooms.
Do you think this could be the better decision of zone definition than having 3 zones?

    • Can I change the arrangement of the TV program icons or is it only possible to change the chanel number send to the TV by pressing an icon?

There are a lot of other questions remaining but for know I have just written down the most important ones. I will add further questions to this thread from time to time.

Again: thank you very much for your advice in advance!

P.S.: If anyone can supply me with information about getting the configuration sofware (to get a better imagination of what is possible with the software and what cannot be done), please send me a PM.

Never said that it should be a pirated software ;)
Knot knowing the license contracts between B&O and the dealers (because B&O does not publish them) it maybe possible that a legal version is availabe. I have heard about dealers who are allowed to give the software to their customers (in UK), for example.

Even on eBay there is offered a version of the software - but we are getting offtoppic. I have removed the money offer im my post although it should not have been an incitement to copy the software without having the accreditation to do so. People who can help can contact me anyway.

I am just disappointed that the software is not offered officially. It cost my time (and therefore also my money) conceptioning the configuration of the Beo5 not knowing what can be done with the software and what cannot be done as well as it is laborious to get to the dealer to get the existing configuration problems fixed. As a software developer it is my opinion that it would be much easier to configure the Beo5 by myself. But also just seeing what is possible by the software in detail would save a lot of time when conceptioning the detailed confiugration.

Dealers are not allowed to distribute the software...

I really agree with you, I am a IT person too. For people who are thinking of buying one, it is essential to negociate the software from your dealer (and future updates) before the transaction.
