    Reliable back up drive

My Iomega 1Tb external disc has just failed - as it is the back up disc, nothing lost! I need a new one with Firewire - any suggestions to what would be a good one?

I have a Seagate that is no longer produced. But they have a new product line called Free Agent which also comes with Firewire 400 for PC and FireWire 400/800 for Mac. If you have a PC I suggest you use eSATA if possible. I have it and it's really fast.

I have a LaCie D2 Quadra. If you have a Mac then this drive has Firewire 800/400 & USB. Its daisy chain-able and comes already formatted for Macs and Time Machine. Best price I found at the time was from the Apple Store.

    How about a Time Capsule?

I agree LaCie D2 Quadra is a good choice and is very reliable.  For backup though, Time Capsule is really wonderful.  I have the 1 TB version and although I have not needed to do a full restore, I have restored files that I had inadvertently deleted several months ago.  You can store other data on the Time Capsule not only backup data.

I hope I'm not the only person on Beoworld who adores his Drobo. (www.drobo.com) No-thinking Redundunt storage, and expandable to 16TB.

    Hi Peter,

I have a Mybook 1TB Studio - no problems and really quick over FW if you need the throughput. Some reasonable reviews on Amazon (inc. yours truly):

    Max.

My B&O is in my Bio.
