    BV4-50(D8) with BS2 MKII Help

    Hi Team ,

Have aquired BV4-50 with the D8 pannel and a BeoSystem 2. The Plasma supports up to 1080i but I see that via component the BS2 only supports 720P . Since the BS2 also does not have DVI im unsure of it is at all possible to use the BS2 to get the 1080i signal I get from my HD tuner box to the pannel.

Any one know if its any way possible ?

I also have a Yamaha RX-V661 that I think might work but want to use BS2 if I can.

Tricky. It seems as if you have the BeoSystem 2 MK ll 941x (?), but with or without DVI: HD-Ready is the best it can offer. You will need the BeoSystem 3 for Full-HD. There are HD-Ready kits (one w/DVI & one w/VGA/YPbPr) available.

    Thats what I thought :)

The D8 maximum res is 1080I and would like to get that. Do you know of how to obtain the HD ready kit ?

They seem to (still) be available from B&O, so I would give your dealer a call and check.

Roger do you know what the HD ready kit - DVI actually do !

Is the DVI only a input - or is also a output ?

Do you have some more information

    Thanks

If you have a D7 (or later) plasma panel that can handle the resolution, you need to install the DVI-card into your BeoSystem 1/2 (slot 1) and this acts as a scaler for the panel. They do also offer a card with VGA/YPbPr connections.

Sorry if I do repeat myself - not sure I understood the last question properly.

Yes, as long as the BV5 as a serial number higher than 18380842. Just order part no. 1436800.

I am trying to understand this thread, forgive me if I have missed something - Beosystem 2 can 'handle' full HD because quite simply it has nothing to do with scaling and there is no DVI output socket to go into it (can't speak for the Beosystem 1).

If you have a 1080p panel, Beosystem 2 can 'handle' full HD so long as your source supports 1080p - Beosystem 2 only acts as a switching box, you must have the latest SW level.

Same for the BV5, it is just a DVI card that slots in the side and acts as a switch with your source driving the panel directly, but you also need scart and digital phono in both scenarios for audio.

Sorry if I have missed the point completely!

Re: BV4-50(D8) with BS2 MKII Help

I understood and was once shown by a friendly dealer that the card you speak of (also somtimes called a blade) fits into a spare slot in the Beovision panel ?

When you then want to connect a hi-def source you connect it directly to the BV panel but tell the Beosystem 2 that you have done this in the set-up config menu's

    Is that correct ?

Yes this is correct - call it whatever they like but it is a standard Panasonic DVI card, put it into either slot 1 or 2 you just need to go into Plasma Version Setup and tell the Beosystem.

I agree, this is a bit confusing - but you need to take the BS2 from being a scart-only to something that accepts digital input. The D7-panel can be flashed, but it is not necessary with the D8-panel.

Re: BV4-50(D8) with BS2 MKII Help

Hi Roger, the Beosystem 2 has nothing to do with the DVI output, it only processes audio i.e. the digital source drives the panel directly so when you press SAT for example (and you have say DECODER set to STB/DVI because it is processing audio only so it doesn't matter about the non-RGB input) the Panel switches to DVI input and the Beosystem 2 handles the audio - you need both scart and digi phono if using a surround sound setup.

It is a bit of a cheat IMHO by B&O, simply put the Beosystem 2 has nothing to do with the picture processing - use a 1080p Panel and you can use, for example, at full resolution, a Playstation 3 displaying 1080p Blu-Ray movies......

    Roger

So if I understand correctly a DVI card (scaler) into Beosystem 2 slot 1. Is the physical output still via the VGA output or does the card have a new output connection (eg. DVI-A)

    Are all signals scaled ?

Do you know where to find more information concerning this - you seems to know more than my dealer

    Thanks

    Hi,

This is very interesting. So are we saying that if you have a D7 Panel or later, regardless whether or not it's connectedc to a BS2 or BS 3, all you need to be able to view 1080p is one of these cards to upscale the image ?

Where to get the information: Drop by any dealer and ask them to pull it up on BeoWise. Your dealer may contact Support for further info.

It is unlikely B&O will give you any information, the Beosystem 2/scaler cards is a red herring.  It is simply a DVI card into the Panel and a Sw update for the BS2, type 9413+.

What is a "red herring" ???

For clearification is there a harware update (DVI scaler card) which fit into the Beosystem 2 or is the the upgrade only a DVI card which fit into Plasma Panel (BV4)

    Many thanks

    RED HERRING:

is an argument, given in reply, that does not address the original issue. Critically, a red herring is a deliberate attempt to change the subject or divert the argument. This is known formally in the English vocabulary as a digression which is usually denoted as "red herring".

dvi card goes into slot 1 or 2 of the plasma only, BS2 doesn't need anything other than type 9413+ and sw 16.0+
