My shiny new Beo 5 is broken?

    Good evening,

so yesterday I bought the Beo 5 and was very happy. I charged it yesterday afternoon and played with it about 20min between yesterday evening and today afternoon.

Than I installed the software on a Computer with SIS-Chipset and the computer didn't recognized my Beo5. "Unknown USB-Device" (I hate Windows). Ok, I thought I'm gonna give it a try on my local PC tomorrow BUT my Beo 5 suddenly showed "Recharge Battery" and turned off.

I turned  it on again and looked in the INFO-Menü: The Battery was empty.

Is my Beo 5 broken? It was fully charged and I can't imagine that it looses that much battery  power in nearly 24h?
Or could  the computer be the problem and the USB-Port discharged the Beo 5? But this would be a lousy construction on the Beo 5 side ...

Any help? I'm not in a very good mood about my new toy :-(

No. It is a software issue and is fixed by updating the firmware - it needs to be 1.34a if it isn't already. Charge it overnight and see what firmware it has tomorrow.

Re: My shiny new Beo 5 is broken?

    Hello Peter,

the Beo 5 already has  Firmware 1.34a. My dealer did the update for me. This was the 1st thing I asked him ;-)

Ok, I'm doing a complete recharge tomorrow and will try again (fingers crossing). Is there any way to "reset" (without losing data) the Beo 5?

    Thanks again

Hi there.  I would charge it with the mains adapter rather than the USB connector.
The charge from the USB is really slow.

yep, I'm going to do so and I strongly hope that this isn't some kind of electrical design flaw from B&Os side ... :-(

I'm gonna post tomorrow evening/night again when I'm at the office; oh and I'm legaly in the office, no burglar or s.th. like that ;-)

Press for about 3 seconds the central button to turn the Beo5 off. Place the Beo5 on its charger and I think the PC will recognize it.

You can also take a look Here Keith is doing a great job.

    Good luck

Try charging it directly from the power supply and not with your PC's USB... if you haven't done so already...

Re: My shiny new Beo 5 is broken?

Hi, I've charged it via power supply for about 5h now, it's full and it was recognized on another PC that does NOT have a SIS chipset.

BUT: Now the software tells me "Configuration version mismatch (Configuration version mismatch)" when I try to download the configuration to my Beo 5!

    B&O Configtool Software-Version: 1.02

    Beo 5 Software/Firmware: 1.34a

    Serializer Version: 0.35

Could andybody send me a link to the newer B&O-software version via PN? I can't believe it because it worked when my dealer did it in the store :-(

    Thank you for your help.

btw: Does "dimming" of the Beo 5 screen work for you? The screen fades black after e.g. 30s but does NOT dim after 10s?!

    Hi TWG,

If you want to watch the "dimming" feature effect, you must turn on the beo5 screen in an ambient brightly enough, like a really shiny day or directly under an artificial light, only then, the first backlight level is different from the dimmed one.

    Regards.

    Hi,

thank you for the tip about dimming ... it's not broken ;-)

actualy I tried configuration with the new software on another computer that does NOT have an SIS-chipset. Now it seems to work :)

If you have firmware 1.34a loaded into your Beo5 then ONLY version 1.30 Configuration Tool software or later will work. See HERE for further details

    Regards Keith....

Thanks, Now I have SW 1.30 on a NON SIS-Chipset computer and it works - how complicate is that? ;-)
