I have a B &O Beogram 1100 record deck attached to a Beomaster 901 stereo amplifier via the Phono input socket.

 

I want to transfer music from LP to CD by connecting the Tape socket to the’ line-in’ of a Creative Soundblaster Connect with USB input to my computer.

 

My problem is that I get no signal into the ‘line-in’ sockets of the Connect using a cable from the Tape socket of the amplifier?

 

Are you using a DIN to Jack connector? I would guess it is the lead to go from jack to DIN rather than DIN to jack which is what you need. I would suggest getting a lead which does both directions - also means you can play your computer music on your system. It will have two stereo jack plugs.

Audio out from the sound card (mini-jack) to two RCA plugs to the Tape 2 input and actually run a similar cable back from the Tape 2 output to the sound card input. I actually also attach a Beoport to the computer so use a Y connector from the output but that is probably not going to be the case with yours. The 5500 system sits under the screen and the computer (a G5 PowerMac) under the desk.

Any chance you could translate that into 'simpleton' for me please?

The computer will have two sockets for a mini stereo jack plug.One is an output socket and one is an input socket.  You need to leads with a stereo jack plug at one end and 2 RCA plugs at the other end like these.  Prices vary. Plug the RCA plugs onto the sockets for Tape 2 on the Beomaster 5500 and then plug the lead from the 5500 output to the input of the computer and the input on the 5500 to the output of the computer. Selecting Tape 2 will select the Computer as a source. It will not turn the computer on or control the music though.

Yes but you will need some software - I use a Mac so cannot advise on the best for you. You simply select Phono on the Beomaster 5500 and set the record running. I use CD spin doctor on mine which allows me to set the record level and once finished, I can name the tracks and send it to iTunes or just burn the CD. Have a quick look here for some guidance.
