Bad experience with B&O---I think is time to switch the brand.

    Hi all,

The story is very short. Bought a pair of used Beolab 1 in mint condition three months ago from a dealer B&O. After 2 months and a half, one of the speakers’s needed to be repaired. Of course NO WARRANTY!!!???( even the non-dealers offers 1 years or 6 months warranty!!!) . The bill was 700$ and guess what: 2 scratches!!!

I am really upset and for sure I am looking to sell all my B&O.

Does anyone had the same incident with B&O  before?

    all sold!

I bought a second hand 2003 RF Avant from an eBay auction run here in the UK by a B&O dealer, and got a 6 month warranty on the set.

I have no complaints - I guess the experience will vary between dealers/regions/countries/continents??

I would complain to the dealer first and then, if no joy, complain to Struer.

I can't really sympathize. You've bought a pair of used BeoLab 1s, probably at a very considerable discount. The speakers are discontinued by B&O, and you expect to receive "as new" warranty and service?

A trifle hard - I dare say if they had looked after them it wouldn't have been so bad.

I paid 5000$ for the speakers. Consider that the price for a new pair was 8000$.

    all sold!

also consider that they just switched to another repair center as the former repair center was really bad. B&O had so many complaints in the past in Montreal about it that they just decided to move on to a new contractor. You cannot imagine what the former repair was doing with the B&O gear. Try to imagine the worst things and multiply by TEN!

Yes, but they were second hand! I bought a Beocom 2 second hand for £300 and it came with a huge chip on the handset - I can't use it, I can't blame a dealer and I'm only to blame by taking the risk of buying second hand.

It can happen to anything. I've bought a second hand watch and it broke down and cost a lot of money to get it repaired and serviced. That's life. I took the risk of buying a second hand watch.

If you want to 'get rid of all B&O equipment' based on one second hand experience, then feel free.

    Caveat Emptor.

I can see both sides to this story. $5000 is a lot of money to plunk down on something without any sort of warranty, so if the buyer took the risk, so be it. BUT, the dealer is also a bit to blame for not offering some sort of guarantee; unless of course, the speakers were for sale on consignment.

Whatever the case may be, maybe for high dollar items, the buyer and seller (or even the dealer selling second hand items) can split the cost for a service and inspection prior to placing such items on sale.

As for the scratches (if they weren't present on the speakers before sending them in), then you certainly have something to complain about. Take it up with the repair facility, then with B&O corporate. I have heard that changing out the skins of BL1's is possible, albeit a chore.

Good Luck! Sorry that this has been a bad time for you. (I hope you don't let a few bad apples ruin it for the entire B&O brand).

I think the problem is with the dealer, not with B&O as a brand.

I would have walked away if I had been offered anything expensive and electrical (any brand)  for a significant proportion of the new price without any sort of warranty,  maybe that is a lesson to learn from the experience?

    Hello 11048437.

I understand your bad opinion. I had several very bad sale and after sale experiences with the last dealer remaining in Strasbourg and I wrote a mail to Struer. After that Mr S... (the dealer) called me in my office and was very agressive and upset because I contacted Struer. So you shoud mail to B&O headquater.

Theses events and the fact that new B&O stuff seems to be less reliable and up to date then in the past make me in bad mood concerning my ex-favorite hifi brand.

Now, as you, I'm thinking to  sell all my B&O stuff and buy a Loewe Media Center. And I'm sure I'll do...

Your dealer called you in to dress you down? What a fool he is. A lot of people who are B&O dealers have missed the point, and behave as if their customers are lesser beings, forgetting who pays whom at the cash register. That's dumb, of course, both for the dealer and the brand.

I still feel the original rant wasn't entirely justified. As I understand it, the damage was even committed by a third party, a repair facility. Yes, it's one sanctioned by the dealer, and I would also be upset if I got the speakers back damaged.

Anecdote: one of the local dealers where I live contracted with an installer who began fleecing customers, stating ridiculously overpriced sums for installing cables. The installer's rationale obviously being that "they can afford it." After just a short while, though, the dealer's business was suffering, as customers were telling their friends how displeased they were.

In my experience, the whole point of "being with a brand" is because it delivers enjoyment and pleasure - when that stops, and the fault is the brand's, then just say bye-bye. I used to like Jaguars, after Ford began destroying them I would no longer consider buying one, for instance -- same with Saabs after GM began destroying those. This in spite of having been both a happy Jaguar and Saab customer, when the cars deserved my attention.

It's simple, the dealer is responsible for the damage to the speakers, but it is up to you to find out all of this info regarding warranty before handing over the 5000 dollars for an item, Consantine.

The fact that you've been dealing with a bunch of clowns does not justify the rest of your B&O equipment to be kicked out of home, that's not fair! Sad
