    BeoSound 9000 CD Return Feature

About three months ago I had the CD mechanism on my BS 9000 replaced when the unit was serviced. I've only just taken it out of its box for the first time after servicing to check that it is working (I know its a long delay but its a long story!). I put a couple of CDs in and they span and appeared to play fine, but I didn't actually connect any speakers.

When I stopped each CD it did not return to its original position like it should. The spring adjustment on the back of the unit was set to the correct position for the flat, tabletop position the unit was in.

Would the absence of speakers cause this? Or do I need to contact the repairer (grrrr)? Any other likely cause?

Additionally, the red power button is fixed in the on position (unit is mk1). Any idea why this would be? I'm sure it wasn't like this before repair.

    Cheers

When you say you stopped each CD, do you mean you turned off the BS9000? or just you changed source?

If you change source, the BS9000 keeps the position of the CD you were listening for 5 minutes. Then, it returns to the standby position.

    Stuart,

How far off were the CD's not returning them to the original inserted position?

Maybe replacement of the mechanism means that the CD memory / position function was wiped clean and you need to restart to set the position again? could that be a possibility?

I have my BS9K since 2001, and have never needed it to be serviced, although maybe it's time for mine. The CDs all return to their positions, but they may be slightly off kilter... I don't mind, though.

Have you tried to store a position, and seeing if that works? If so, then definitely the service caused the memory to be lost. Maybe it's inbuilt memory in the carriage?

    Please keep us posted.

    Hi Stuart,

Download the service manual where you will find comprehensive test facilities.

There is no reason for the power button to be stuck in. It may have been cought by the case when the service people rebuilt the machine.

    Thanks everyone for your replies.

I connected speakers, CDs played fine, but made no difference to the auto positioning problem.

Ran test modes 71 and 73. "Auto postioning error". Surprise, surprise.

Hi ho, hi ho its back to the repairer we go!
