Hello,

Brand new to the forum, and a brand new B&O owner.  I just got a Beogram 1602 as a freebie.  The main issue I'm having with it is that the 33 rpm runs at double speed, and 45 rpm takes a minute to get up to speed, but is fine when it gets there.

I think the unit sounds great, and would like to fix it.  Has anyone run into this problem, and if so, have any advice on how to repair?

Interesting set of faults! Sounds electronic to me so I would suggest testing the value of the components. The slow starting of the 45 speed makes me wonder about the actual motor though.

I have the same problem with 33 rpm running at double the speed, it's been doing this almost since i've bought it. Let's hope another user knows how to fix this.

I have a hunch that I read ages ago that there was some kind (is that vague enough?) of a design error in the motor control of these Beograms, that indeed could cause the 33 rpm speed to double. Now that the topic has been revived, perhaps somebody knows what it was!

Yes, that's right.

The phase control of the motor circuit will allow running at double speed due to a fabrication bug (in some machines).
The double speed will typically come if, under acceleration, the belt slips on the motor pulley at
start up and the (wrong) speed will then be maintained by the control circuit.
A slipping belt will also make the platter spin up slower than normal.

Originally there was a fix for the electronic bug but in most cases a new belt will cure it.
