    Beomaster 5000 and CD5500

    Hi All,

I recently bought a CD5500 of ebay that was advertised as in good working order. Obviously it only has draw open and play buttons on the front. If you put a cd in the track indicator comes on for about 5 seconds then goes out. It doesn't highlight any tracks and won't play cd's.

I am assuming that it should play as a standalone. I haven't got a 7pin data lead yet but assume it would work with a 5 pin din ( without data control) but it doesn't.

Can someone confirm that it will play disc's without being connected to the beomaster via the datalink cable.

    Thanks

    Steve

You are correct, it should not need the BM present.

A common failure of these is the death of the laser ...

guess: i do not have a 5500, but at least on the cd50 -the disc goes in "upside-down..." seems wrong, and it drove me crazy at first.

not very intuitive if the 5500 does the same... anyone know?

The CD50 is the only B&O CD deck that loads labelside down.

If the tracklist is correct (correct number of tracks) the CD has been read correctly (= laser OK). Why it won't start playing is a different issue, maybe lack of power to certain parts of the controller / processor.

It could be the CD catching on the loading tray.

Try gently pushing the front edge of the tray downwards immediately after loading the CD and see if it continues to play.

Have you removed the transit fixings???

They are red twisters on the underside. They need to be completely removed, not just twisted round.

If it was supplied without transit fixers and it came by courier I am sorry to say that it could be completely ruined. It has happened to me!!!

    Regards Graham
