A very apt thread for me - cos yesterday, I bought and got installed a used pair of BeoLab 5's instead of the new Lab 9's. I got them from B&O Dublin and the sound is sheer perfection.
Now as for room size etc, I live in a 3 bed semi-detached in Dublin Suburbs so my living room is maybe 12' by 16' , i.e Smallish...lololol. Do they dominate? Yes they do, but I can live with that.
I have 5's as front, 4000's as rear on stands, the beoSound 9000 and the BV7-40 (Mk111).
I played some choral music last night (Arvo Part's KANON POKAJANEN) and it was utterly sublime and as near perfection as you can get. Then I played David Gilmore's (ex Pink Ployd) ON AN ISLAND and again, perfection to my ear.
Once I get the room fully sorted, Ill post a few pics.
my only quibble now is that you may get yours for £6000, but I paid Euro 10,000 for mine :(:(...lolol. But thats Dublin for u - everything is more expensive here. However, they are Euro 16.000 new. So I guess as a once-in-a-lifetime purchase, its ok.
Cant wait to watch Avitar or some such DVD to test the surround effects.
In short, I'd advise the 5's if you are alllowed to turn your living room into a B&O Chapel of Worship. I did, and now im listening to Keane West and I couldn't be more happy with my decision:):):)
