    A problem with cassette playback

    Hi,

I was given a Beocenter 2600, beogram 1700, a pair of S35 speakers o and a pair of U70s by my aunt a couple of years a go. She bought it all new in 81.

Anyway, I use it all the time, I love the system and have a stack of tapes and records that get used when the iPod with A8's won't cut it.

Recently though, the tape deck has started doing funny things. Sometimes it will only play through one speaker, or neither. Tapping the side of the system sometimes brings it all back to life, but obviously that's not a solution. Thoughts?

     Cheers

Re: A problem with cassette playback

    Welcome to Beoworld !

The problem is probably because of oxidated contacts in a switch. Could be the tape switch or one of the adjacent switches operated on the front of the Beocenter or the record/playback switch operated by the record button on the tapedeck. A bit of switch cleaner will probably fix it. Maybe even activating the tape and record buttons a couple of times will be enough.

Of course there can be a million other causes but these would be the first to check.

Nice classic system and the U70 is a wonderful addition.

I like it, it U70 is great. The vinyl coating on the ear pads came off a long time a go, but I'm not planning to sell them so it's not a problem.

I might up grade the speakers at some point, but to be honest, it all works to well together I'm not sure it's worth while.

I sporadically keep an eye on ebay, the 35s and the beogram come up quite often but can't remember the last time I saw the 2600 or the U70s, which is pretty cool.

Thanks for the advice and welcome
